Mauro Veglio Barolo Vigneto Arborina

Just opened, and I suspect rating will improve with breathing. Somewhat muted nose, of blood, tar, fruit jubes. Pours clear. Palate is of beef stock, musk, red fruits.

Decanted for 2.5 hours, wine opened up nicely in that time. Tannins balance alcohol very nicely, subtle notes of leather, tobacco, rose as expected. Can definitely age more, but very drinkable now.

Wonderful nose of floral cherry, light tobacco, and old leather. With just a little time open, this settles into a youthful and elegant presentation of firm tart rustic cherries. Long. Plenty of life left.

Young but beautiful wine. Really enjoyed this as an example of Barolo. I think this will drink well for another decade.

Hard to give this bottle anything less than a 92. The nose was great - leather, fresh red cherry, graphite, jam....a little more time in bottle and this would get much better. As it was, decanted and aerated, it was pretty darn good nonetheless.

Nebbiolo Prima (day 4) #213. More modern than traditional, the wine opens with a sexy, inviting nose of ripe cherry, sage and mineral. The modern approach continues on the palate, but there is a river of acidity that brings it all together. Lots of purity to the fruit, with firm, sweet tannins that round this out nicely.
