Binomio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Incredibly deep colour, really saturated red black. Thick, viscous red legs. Nose is black fruits and alcoholic heat (15%) but not unattractive. All that extraction shows through on the palate with the black fruits accompanied by lots of tannins that don't appear to have abated significantly. This renders it a food wine at this stage of its evolution. There is stacks of ripe fruit there too but it could be quite a wait for those tannins to fully integrate. Reminds …

Color is shockingly deep and youthful. Almost opaque with violet notes on the rim. Nose has ripe blackcurrant fruit, fig leaves, graphite and pungent spices. With time floral aromas of violets and geraniums emerge. There's also one more aroma which I cannot pin down and is the characteristic aroma of grappa. On the palate it's full bodied, packed with ripe forest berry fruit which is almost chewey, with huge but soft tannins, medium acidity and a wonderful long bitter sweet …
