Medium red; nice fresh nose, licorice, a few spices; medium bodied to light attack, a bit surprising given its 14%, middle a bit neutral, light tannins and dark fruit in the end; nice everyday wine

Burnt earth and leather is exactly right (see comment from earlier) but nothing like, say, a Rhône, as those descriptors are most often attached to northern Rhônes. This has freshness and a graceful or even chiseled structure. And the combination works uniquely—that is, I’ve never tasted anything like it though it’s also immediately enjoyable. Looking for more to buy but prob too late for this vintage.

With Rigatoni Red/Ricotta….. Quite dry but it brings an herbal streak that is nice. Nose is alive with spice and floral notes. On the elegant side but tannins are still very strong and dominating. Tobacco, Roses, Tar, light balsamic and great acidity. Earth is there but more as texture than flavor.Finish going strong. Where will this go? Ripe Raspberries at 60 minutes. 2 hours-Licorice, coffee, cherry skin and currants.Tar coming back strong.. Seems to be in a good place. Will …

Final bottle of four. This one five years after the last - this was a bit late, as it feels like this wine is not as good as it was now. But still a very nice experience, with the tertiary flavours coming in - not quite truffle but mushroom and leather. A bit raisiny at first but better with air. Rosehip, at first cherries in liqeur but day after more red cherry like, dried strawberries on day 1. The structure …

Incredible perfume 1 hour after opening, which holds up for a long time. On the palate the fruit is already gone, secondary and tertiary aromas dominate, very nice acidity and good tannins. It might have been better a few years before, but was still interesting.

Fruity cherry roses some cedar and saw dust on the nose The palate shows fresh fruity cherry ( coca cola ) licorise sawdust . Had it in both Zalto Burgundy glass as well as Bordeaux glass and i think the Bordeaux glass makes the best of the wine.

Mid mahogany with a gentle perfume showing crushed rose petals, bay leaf and spearmint that morphs to worn leather jacket, tar, bitter chocolate and some ripe cherries. Light to medium bodied, the entry is juicy with chalky texture adding a frame. Dry, the wine is narrow and focussed with a crisp acidity but finishes a little short. I would have liked more flesh as the wine felt boney and the tannins seem to rise towards the back-palate becoming puckering and …

A coravin journey. First night a bit closed with high acidity and tannins. Although good concentration with red fruits, a little perfume and medium long finish 87 p. Second time after a few weeks later. More open with good perfume and structure! Learnings. Open the wine in the morning or the day before and decant. Really good wine

Couleur soutenue, presque Bordeaux, nez légèrement fumé, délicatement épicé, herbes sèches, floral, encore relativement fermé, bouche fruitée, encore un peu retenue, tannins encore présent, bel équilibre, un beau vin auquel il faut probablement laisser encore quelques années pour s’ouvrir.

Nose is a bit less aromatic than I was expecting, but nevertheless very pleasant burnt earth, tar notes. Relatively elegant light weight mouth. Very nicely balanced finish with a touch of cranberry and especially orange. It's subtle elegance is really growing on me.

Love this. From the sandy terroir of Roero thus a much more red fruited and fine boned Nebbiolo than Barolo. Super pretty + pure, lots of charm and very drinkable. Sure it'll probably cellar but I like it right now.

Very nice. It is not a sumptuous wine, but all good aspects of a good Nebiolo are there. As someone said, a better buy than most Barolos or Barbarescos of the same price range. Very fine producer. Its Dolcetto is a bargain.

Sandrone with Luciano and Barbara Sandrone (Zoom!) : A large 66ha vineyard in Roero shaped like a beautiful ampitheatre. Its sandy soil brings finesse and elegance. Appealing from the first sniff and sip. I really love the tannins - they're very much present, but all point in the right direction and add to the experience. There's a decent amount of fruit, but the structure is what comes across. Barbara Sandrone likes this wine with a white meat risotto, whose starchiness …

Color: medium ruby Nose: strawberry jam, sour cherry, and violet. Bit of roses and leather and a licorice and anise note Palate: high acidity, medium tannins that are quite refined, medium body. Cherry and strawberry, not at all overripe. Almost a hint of sweet on entry, then dry and satisfying Finish: long I preferred the 16, which I found mesmerizing. This is more easygoing and food-loving while having plenty of layers to enjoy. Sandrone always delivers.

This wine is coming into its own. I found it hard edged in the past and the shell is cracking open and there is very pure, rich, ripe Nebbiolo fruit, indicative of the relatively warmer terroir of Valmaggiore and much richer and fuller expression of Nebbiolo than what I think of from Roero (is this the vintage, the terroir, or the hand of Sandrone). The blue-violet part of the Nebbiolo spectrum This is an impressive bottle of Nebbiolo if not …

From glass. Eventually a sharp nose of sweet raspberry and sundried tomato, and a corresponding palate with the tomato hints coming out more and more on the final sips. Fresh acidity and lots of chewy tannin, but nonetheless approachable now in its youth. Clean, with characterful fruit. Delicious wine, and should remain so for the decade.

The nose showed crushed cherry, with spicy, fresh florals and hints of wild herbs. On the palate, I found soft, juicy textures contrasted by tart red berries, wild herbs and spices. The finish was wiry and fresh with hints of grippy tannins and lingering tart berry. This is was more compact than I had expected and a little nervous, but should even out in a few years time. That said, I don't see it ever coming close to the 2016.

Beginning to come into a more mature phase, the fruits leaning more to dried strawberry and cherry, some balsamico, rosehip, roses and iron. Good purity to the fruit still though despite change of character. Very little barrel influence, tannins and acidity becoming more integrated. Have one more bottle left and will give that two or three years more.

Mid mahogany to browning edge. Very classic Nebbiolo bouquet with plenty of tar, dried rose petals, undergrowth and some Sauvage/feral notes. Wilder notes than expected and these grew in glass. The momentary grip of a firm, compact tannin on entry is followed by a sweet, velvety-edged fruit immediately afterwards. Forest fruits and wild berries join tar and savoury, undergrowth elements. The wine hasn't much density on the mid-palate feeling more like a Pinot Noir with its delicate ballerina movements. Some …

Bien+.
