Kanonkop, Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch

No special vintage in SA, but the wine is very nice. Still fruit. Red cherry, red currant, some mince, pencil shavings and smokiness. Perhaps lacking some depth and complexity. 91-92

The focus lays on ripe paprika, with furthermore a rather expressed acidity and spices.

Earthy but still fruity. Very dry.

Wine of the night. Round youthful, complex.

Although purchased at the estate (which makes any wine taste better by default :-)), this particular bottle was already way over hill. Should have been drunk 10 years ago. Now all it had was a dry, tannic structure. Fruit are gone, 2ndary aromas/flavours barely noticable. Anyway, a nice memory from SA trip. Cheers!

Medium ruby core and pale garnet rim. Very complex nose - medium (+) oak (smoke, tobacco), vegetables, animal (leather, wet wool), mineral notes ( earth, tar) and light black fruit in the background. Fully developed nose. Medium acidity, body and ripe tannins. Palate reveals black fruit, oak, animal and mineral notes combined with pungent spice in the aftertaste.
