Dark burnished gold in colour. Buttery esters waft from the glass. Soft lush Sémillon fruit, some citrus zest lingering. Epitome of a classic aged Hunter Sémillon, but not exquisite.

Hitting its straps. Freshly minted gold in colour. Classy aged Hunter semillon nose. Some honeyed character before sliding into a dry flinty finish. Could easily reach 20!

A year on from last formal note. Surprisingly this has continued to grow in stature over time. I suppose it is declassified Lovedale after all and they said it would only have 15 not 20 year lifespan hence the declassification. At 13 years this is a hale and hearty semillon approaching the golden age of development. Simply gorgeous top knotch Hunter Valley Semillon. Only tasted a few to truly beat this. Bright golden colour will th a tinge of green. Aroma of citrus and saw dust. Green apple, lemon butter, light honey, lemon, Yellow peach. Smooth, in the early stages of maturity. Still fresh and bright but with a smooth honey and butter flavour.

No i'm not going to show it to international guests as the epitome of HV Semillon but I do like coming home and cracking open a familiar taste. Very Good. Clear, pale, gold to water white rim, legs. Clean, medium, fully developed nose of oyster shell, citrus, lemon pith, waxed apple and honey. Dry, medium (+) acid, medium (-) alcohol (10.5%), medium body, medium intensity flavours of lemon pith, honey, toast, grapefruit. Medium length. Very good, balanced, drink now, this may be getting to its end, starting to run out of primary fruit, it hasn't quite developed in the way I had hoped. Screwcap.

Peppercorn Offline : Spice and pine, lemon and grapefruit. Moderate depth, next to the 2005 Lovedale it definitely seems less intense. I like the aromas but the palate makes the decision to declassify this make sense.

As a drop on its own this is very good (came from air conditioned cellar since release). Very developed in colour and very developed on the nose with classical HV semillon aged characteristics. Easy to drink with adequate but no piercing acidity, a smoothness to the hay/lanolin/toast. Struggles a bit with food where the lower acidity is exposed. Hunter Semillon flavour, no doubt. But I expect that this started life a bit dilute with relatively low acid, and while it has built flavour in the bottle over time as Hunter Semillions do this isn't the greatest example - let down by the lack of concentration. 10.5% ABV. Sealed with screw cap (thank fully).
