Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Les Arboises Brézé

Just entering its drinking window. Quite a serious saumur. No pirazine or greeness, a bit earthy and sour on the end of the palate. Feels like a cool vintage and will benefit another 5 years in the cellar.

Très fin, bonne acidité comme tout les vins de Guiberteau, peut-etre un peu trop, beau fruit un peu mince mais son point fort est sa belle pureté. Bien honnête pour 60$ a l'époque mais je n'achète pas a 95$ Un vin qui nécessite encore un bon 5 ans afin que l'acidité se calme.

Beautiful green pepper, but rich and round, not lean and vegetal. 15 minutes air helped and took it to 85% of where it was at two hours. Fine to drink now. It's not too early to enjoy.

The nose is gorgeous with notes of tobacco, spices and green pepper. The palate is a bit behind at this point with a lean, crisp profile and flavors of dark berries, spices and tobacco. The finish is a bit clipped with a strong green pepper note suggesting under ripeness but I'm such a believer in this wine that I'm prepared to give this more time to come around. 90?

PnP. ABV 12.5%. My first experience with this producer, also from recent overseas shipment. Clean floral nose with just a smidgen of that Cabernet Franc funk, elegant and subtle. Mostly primary dark fruits, ripe and complex with just enough acidity to balance out. Still rather firm mid-palate and long finish. A touch of oaks and dark soils lingering at backend. Drank this too young at the instigation of friends who is soon visiting the Loire. Ruby color and prominent green bell pepper, as others have said. It opened nicely after an hour of decant. An enjoyable wine now that might become great with 5+ years.

Ouvert et bu, difficile à noter car marqué par une petite réduction. On retrouve par moments des arômes de framboises et de fumée. Au palais, poids moyen, acidité marquée, quelques saveurs herbacées, bonne longueur. On dirait pas mais j’ai plutôt bien aimé même si, sur la base de cette bouteille, me paraît inférieur au 2015.

Much too young. Initially very closed and tightly wound but after 90 minutes in a decanter it came alive. Green bell pepper, candied red fruit. Dry tannins and medium acidity. Can only imagine how much greater this will be in 3-5 years.

Newly Released Saumurs from Romain Guiberteau (Dig Wines, San Francisco) : Dull red. Less pungently herbaceous aromas than the 2017 Chapaudaises. Softer, more subtle, less angular, and slightly lower acidity than that wine. The biggest difference is more complexity imparted by a long, earthy finish. Much more interesting to me than the younger red.
