Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, Fixin, Les clos

This is outstanding, one of the best young red Burgundies I've had in some time. The flavour profile is right in my wheelhouse - all bright red fruited flavours accented with floral notes and lighter savoury/earthy elements that come through more clearly with air. It's medium weight on the palate; silky textured with a sappy richness to the fruit on the palate, bright acids underneath, and fine grained tannins that come through on the back end, and the whole package …

Raspberry and orange with rose nuances. Vibrant and sweet after 3 days open. Try it a couple of years

Earthy barnyard cherry on the nose similar to En Combe Roy but palate is tighter and less giving at the moment. Acidity is higher as well. Long finish. 91 today but has loads of potential. Showed riper the next day.

Just a bit reductive on opening but opened up after an hour or so. Darker fruited and more concentrated than the village Fixin, which is more red fruited and crunchy. This was a little sullen in comparison, less vibrant, but still had a nice spice quality and had some fine tannin. Would probably give 3-5yrs and check in.

2:00pm - quick double decant and back into wine fridge 6:00-7:00pm - darker fruited, some nice floral notes on the nose and palate as well, finish with some tea / herbs. No rough edges

DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/19/2024-3/20/2024 (Beaune) : Walkaround tasting with producers. Red and black cherry aromas and flavors come across as rich with good power for its level. Good length, good to enjoy young from 2026.
