1999 vintage

Splash decanted, but could not give it more air. A bit underwhelmed compared to previous bottle - a bit austere, lacking both the exhuberant and expansive mid-palate or the interesting tertiaries I experienced before. Over the hill? Bottle variation? Lack of air?

2003 vintage

This was excellent. At or near maturity. Warm weather Syrah - nice contrast with a Melville Syrah that was also open. Midpalate was fairly expansive. Generous fruit, but with interesting tertiaries creeping in. Tannins have mostly (but not entirely) melted.

2008 vintage

Still impressive !! At or near peak !! The last bottle of the case consumed at an Argentinian restaurant with friends and grilled rack of lamb. perfect cork easily removed. Dark red with minor oxidation and medium clarity. This syrah has the fragrance of black cherry cola, taste of bing cherries, and a full 3 second finish. Bill Easton's magic on full display with this wine.

2008 vintage

Deep, cool, brambles, and graphite on the nose. Mild fruityness, sort of a blueberry-heavy fruit punch, as well as some cola on the palate. Good structure, very balanced. Short finish.

2012 vintage

Absolutely loved this. Very impressed by how this wine aged - tannins fine and integrated, no wood sticking out, alcohol not in the way, fruit more in the background than at the fore, and beautiful non-fruit characteristics (tobacco, dried leaves, leather, game, touch of brine). Lovely mid palate in particular. Paired beautifully with a Provencal beef stew. Will most definitely explore Bill Easton’s wines!

Nearly black. A mélange of spices, cassis, and cedar on the nose. Full bodied, thick blackberries, black pepper, fully integrated tannins, dark chocolate, tar, and a long dry finish. Not a hint of age beyond the overall mellowness. Superb.

Wow, still a cherry bomb and tasting really good right now !! Perfect cork after at least 15 years in the bottle. Consumed over two days. This balanced wine started a little closed, but opened up and showed more fresh fruit after 30 minutes on the first day. PnP, no decanting. Took my first sip right away thought maybe this one was a goner. I let sit in my glass for 20 mins, and wow, what a difference. Still lots of good bright fruit, very well balanced and great finish.

I was confused at first when I nosed this wine at a blind tasting. It smelled like Bordeaux but tasted like a new world wine. Incredibly aromatic complexity is followed by a massively sweet texture with great acidity on the palate. A wine that towered over others. A truly great wine! Still an infant, this wine will provide immense drinking pleasure for the following 10-15 years.

Very good. Peaked after being open about 20 minutes and started to come apart after about 45 mintues. Still some hints of fruit. Good tanins and acidity too.

Tasted at tasting room. Plenty of fruit and tannin, creating a balanced wine. I'm not sure how long the bottle was open when I sampled. This syrah is drinking exceptionally well and I expect another few years will only improve this vintage.

Wonderfully smooth. The tannins have smoothed as it is a 2004 and it is dry on the front palate. Long legs... really nice, though!

Great fruit and acidity still. The tanins have largely subsided, though are still noticable. Just amazing. Did not decant. After about 60-90 minutes, it started to come apart structurally, but still quite enjoyable. Same the next night.

Terre Rouge/Easton Tasting Room : Aromas of cassis, leather, plum & blackberry fruit, iron and lavender. Open-knit fruit on the palate with complex depth of mineral & earth, spices and florals. Richly textured, medium acidity, fine tannin and full complexity on the finish. Showing very well.

On the nose is dark peppery fruit, along with some wood, and earth. Huge amount of dark, deep, concentrated fruit on the pallet, along with some wood and smokey notes. 93+ points.

With over a decade under its belt, this shows both deft winemaking and the potential for Foothill Syrah. Ample rich fruit aromas with elements of mint and underbrush. The fruit is very up-front and vital, with little tannin, and a sumptuous quality that makes the bottle vanish too quickly. A great example of Bill Easton's sure hand with Rhone grapes.

Brief decant. Cork in great condition for vintage. Did not observe any sediment staining in the bottle neck. However, there was a fine pumice film remaining in the glass. Nose initially restrained. Then started to open revealing a floral component and red fruit. Palate is full bodied with a firm acidic texture. Tannins are subdued at this phase. Decent wine, but suspect this is on the decline. Opaque. Huge nose of berries, wood. Palate, some cherry, boysenberry, pencil shavings, soft oak, reasonablt long finish. Integrated well. Well done.

rich ruby color with just a hint of brick @ the rim. first nose, barnyard and sun warmed concord grape, ripe blackberry. surprisingly lovely fruit and structure, still a lot of backbone. rich, succulent, mouthwatering. after sitting a bit the predominant barnyard blows off and some of the tannin mellows, leaving tart blackberry, lush plum, suede leather and white pepper. all in all, a balanced wine. i am surprised considering its age. wish i had more!

I have a soft spot in my heart for Terre Rouge. I like their style. This wine reminds one of a Northern Rhone, but that is not the true standard of comparison. Excellent acidity with enough fruit to provide a very pleasant bottle. Seemed to improve a bit over time. Depending upon the moment (food or not) the spiciness of the Syrah was more or less salient. Al in all, a very nice bottle.

When first openned this bottle had a strange "old" favor and smell, very strong. Not sure how to explain other than to say it wasn't desireable. After decanting for a couple of hours, the wine really opened up and the undesireable disappeared.
