Ottimino Zinfandel Von Weidlich

Surprisingly delicious with plenty of fruit

Decanted for about an hour before dinner. Hint of cherry and pepper on the nose. All the tartness from the last time I tried this is gone - still medium long finish. Smooth black cherry cola and some spice. Served with grilled lamb chops. This is a very different wine from before, but I still like it - it's smoother and more refined.

Popped and poured. Sour cherry and a little pepper on the nose. White pepper and dill pickle on the palate immediate with a medium long finish. Settled into a black cherry cola with a very peppery finish. Interesting wine - not what I expected! Had with a t-bone and potatoes.

I liked it - very peppery, but not a big red wine - then again I'm not a big-red drinker. Drank with spicy food - savory with slight sweet accents in the food. This wine was a great paring with the food.

Popped and poured. On the nose it has some anise, coffee or bakers chocolate, and some black cherry. On the palate, a ton of white pepper with some ripe red fruit. A very nice, long, spicy finish but nothing earth shattering. Napa Wine Company sold out of the 2004 at a price point of $75 which was almost double the price of the 2003.
