Color Deep caramel-gold with a light tawny/amber hue. Nose Sweet, honeyed bouquet with dried apricot, candied orange, and a distinct peach-kernel/almond note; botrytis is clear yet refined. Palate Beautiful poise between acidity and sweetness. Thorough botrytis character that supports rather than dominates. Flavors of candied orange, dried apricot, and peach kernel carry/almond through with a luscious mouthfeel and gently elevated viscosity. Conclusion A truly elegant Sauternes in a perfect drinking window: superb balance and tremendous pleasure today, with the vitality …

Orange confit, mandarin, modest cinnamon, jasmin tea, vanilla and that's only the bouquet. These elements also floating around in the mouth, concentrated, the alcohol is well covered and smooth bitters give an additional complexity to the balanced finish; unexpectedly exceptional.

93-95 Punkte.

Dried apricots, honeyed tropical fruit, flowers, and spice create the nose. But it is the sweet, as well as lifted, over-ripe, tropical fruit-filled palate, with its vanilla, honey, roasted nut, and candied orange nuance in the finish that seizes the day. Drink from 2022-2042.

En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux) : From magnum Densely rich, borderline cloying in fact, a little too soft for me.

apricot, honey and cinnamon. sweetness is balanced by just enough acidity to give it some freshness and make for good drinking right now. I'd prefer (as with many sauternes I've tried) a bit more zip to make this more suited to my personal preference.

Fresh with a good acidity, a bit wax, some grapefruit bitters combined with medium sweetness; a gentle taste and until so far 91 points. However one point less due to a bit short finish. Enjoy this wine now, don't wait.

From 375. This house never seems to do it for me. A bit simple, advanced in age, barley, apricot, too sweet. Not enough fruit or structure here. Perhaps the 750 are in better shape.

Apricot and honey, slight hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. Light acidity, not one I think will age for an extended period but could do with a few more years. Enjoyed with pumpkin pie and whipped cream.

This wine took 90 minutes to breathe. Apricot and honey bouquet. Low acidity, with flavors of apricot, honey, vanilla, and orange in the background. Also some floral notes. The medium finish coated the tongue with a good balance of syrupy sugars and citrus-like bitters, leaning to the sugars side. A solid Sauternes still vibrant and enjoyable, but nearing the end of its peak years.

375. lilting, fairly light orangey-apricot nose and taste is very appealing; lively and well balanced. lighter, less sweet, and less concentrated than many 01s. good length and just right touch of bitterness to offset sweetness.

Epic 2001 Sauternes Horizontal (San Francisco) : Tasted single-blind. From a 375. Golden-orange; nose is moderately aromatic, difficult to get specific notes; palate is medium-full bodied, medium acidity, lighter overall than some of the others, a bit of good vibrancy through the midpalate but also fades a bit and only a bit of fruit; finish is medium length. 84

MW 2012 Annual Bordeaux Tasting San Francisco, nose of honey and tangerine, same on the palate, light/medium body, tasty, fairly fruit forward, in 2 years might merit a higher score, clean and lovely fruit, touch simple, medium finish.

Young, rich and ever so slightly cloying. Improved with air so best given time. Would be more approachable if it were to have a zippier acidic streak. I'll try to keep my hand off these bottles for the next few years Good value from Aldi (£6.99 for half bottle, post Christmas bin end)

Excellent sauternes qui montre la qualité du millésime. Le sucre est quelque peu digéré, le tout est riche et gras mais sans excès, avec une bonne acidité et une délicieuse amertume qui se dévoile dans la finale aux agrumes. Excellent RQP. 93

Drinks at Chris' (Newton Suites) : I had quite forgotten having this before, but looking at the notes from a year or so back, the impressions are quite similar - while not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, this is a very nicely put together Sauternes that gives a lot of pleasure. If anything, this bottle was even slightly better than the last one. The nose had a bit of that metallic mineral edge that haunts second-rather Sauternes at …

Golden yellow color. Candied orange peel, apricots, honey and smoke on the nose. Sweet and spicy apricots, orange marmalade and honey make a very ripe palate. The wine needs more acidity to keep it from being overly cloying.

Sesti / Costanti Brunello Vertical (Alex's place) : Pretty decent Sauternes. Seemed rather advance and maybe a bit weaker for its vintage, but it was very nicely drinkable in its own way. It showed gentle aromas of honey, sweet pears, osmanthus and other white flowers, and then a bit of bubblegum, some minerality and a slightly fishy, slightly metallic old Sauternes notes. Intriguing. Made me think it was a lot older, something that was probably suggested by its rather deeper …
