Nose: sesame oil, jackfruit, white flower, hints of spices Notes: This is a cool and chiseled Chevalier Montrachet. Given its age this has maintained good freshness and intensity. Very long aftertaste and still has plenty of life ahead of it. Although Chevalier was never my favorite choice in the Grand Cru whites but this is certainly quite an excellent representation of the vineyard and is drinking quite excellently. Christie’s The Glorious Cellar pre-auction dinner in HK- Much rounder and deeper than the 08 Sauzet Batard on the side. Terrific balance between fruit and acidity. Great tension.

Luckily I found another bottle of this, I had mis- catalogued. This is drinking at its peak, but it is probably better to be consuming this in the nearer term. It is perfectly structured, with faultless balance and precision, with a lengthy finish. 96+

Superb again - attractive and deep. Tells a whole story what great Burg whites are about. Nothing funky or extreme.

Unfortunately my last bottle, as this is stunning and structured to stay here for a good few years. After so many premox disappointments during the last few years, that apart from Chablis, I am very reluctant to let my white Burgundys to lay down past 15 years. The colour was perfect and a wonderful light golden, and the tasting experience was flawless from start to finish. 96+

Grand Cru White Burgundy Fest : Bright and young. Less tension than the 04 Leflaive, but no less energy. Very surprising to have such a great showing from this producer from this time period.

Stunningly intense yet elegant body. Good length. Nothing exaggerated just a great Chevy.

In line with my note from 3 months, this is a wonderful wine drinking in its prime. This should stay here for years, but at this stage does need aeration and should not be drunk over chilled. Cellar temperature is ideal to display its nuance.

White Burgundy study (2008 and 2014) (Chicago, IL) : Corked. A huge shame; on the palate, there were many elements that were very similar with the 2008 Morey Bâtard.

Drinking at its peak, this is a wonderfully decadent Montrachet. Lemon, pear and floral notes dominate with an excellent richness on the palate and a buttery mouthfeel. The balance and acidity are perfect with a lengthy finish. Whilst there might not further upside with the wine it should hold this level for a good few years.

Second of a case and similar to previous showing. This is a very floral, solar and energetic offering but clearly from a warmer vintage. I liked this more than the totally differently styled 04 alongside. White wine of the flight for me and for the table (just ahead of the 04). 94-95

Even though this bottle was slightly overshadowed by the 13 PYCM Chevalier Montrachet and 98 Leflaive BBM, it is very reflective of the terroir. Rich and powerful, Grand Cru intensity. Sleek yellow fruits and ripe lemons. Mineral driven which I find very distinctive of Chevalier Montrachet. Drinking well today and should develop well in the next 10-15 years. Chevalier Montrachet? 2010? (91/100)

Blind I correctly identified this as my wine. The wine shows that it is from a warmer vintage but not in a negative way, it is quite rich and expansive on the palate, yellow fruits that carry very long. Were it not for the distraction of the uber-amazing PYCM Chevalier 13 I might have even scored this higher. For me a tied second best in the flight with Leflaive BBM98.

This wine brought Michael Schuster from his own cellar. Developed to its full maturity. Lovely wine with terrific aromatic complexity. Fresh, dry, very ripe. Buttery rich, vital. Mellow on the palate and very pleasing with so much concentration. Total satisfaction! Epitome of Chevalier-Montrachet. That is the Magic to open the bottle at this very moment when it shines in all its glory! Thank you, Michael for sharing this with us.

So broad and voluptuous, yet so much cut and precision. This is a tremendous bottle with so much length and gives as much pleasure as possible in a white wine. Drinking beautifully now and will not wait long to consume the rest of my bottles.

Michael Schuster Fine Wine Course Day 5 (Headspace, Hatton Gardens, London) : Pale gold. Tight, backward nose, that took time to open out to show stone fruit, honey, nuts, cheese, cedar. Developing. Dry, high acidity, rich, ripe, generous fruit, mineral, full body, very long finish. Quite forward for a Grand Cruise, drinking very well now. Is it worth waiting longer given the risk of premox? I'm not sure it is.

Opened and let breath in cooler for 40 min. Served in Riedel Vinum stems. 55 F. Clear medium intense lemon gold color. Nose clean, with pronounced intensity of fruit, sweet spice, oak and wet stones. Palate was dry with medium plus acidity, medium body, buttery mouth feel. Flavors were intense and concentrated. Flavor characteristics were vanilla, sweet lemon, gooseberry, pear. green french melon, ginger, caramel, flinty stones. Length was medium plus to long. An Outstanding well balanced wine. That was …

Zachys Dinner at Del Posto (New York, NY) : To me this really showed the vintage above all else. Rich fruit, just teetering on the edge of being overripe. Good depth but not complex of nuanced. Oak not fully resolved. At a good place now, I wouldn't be stashing these away in the far corners of the cellar.
