Deep ruby crimson. Aromas of mixed dried and fresh prune plum, hibiscus, cherry. Lots of fruit on the palate, plum, raspberry, silky tannin. Medium body, good acidity, medium- length finish. Great value! 13.5% ABV

I was at the airport and needed to mellow. I could have a crappy cab or a puny Pinot. I ignored those two roads and chose the Malbec. And that has made all the difference. In short, it’s inexpensive, tasty, and solid.

Really good everyday Malbec. A good value. Nice bouquet, not overly heavy or jammy.

Medium purple in color; blackberries, plums, and graphite on the nose; medium acidity; medium tannins; tastes like raspberries, boysenberries (I think), red pepper flakes, and clay pots with a long finish. Nellie doesn't like it, but I do. Great for the price.

Orange zest, and cherry yogurt on the nose. The palate is strong with cherries until mid-palate, then it mingles with dried, crushed geraniums, and rosemary tinged bergamot. The finish lingers long with a tingle of peppercorns. There is a slight meatiness to it, but that might be the aromas of dinner cooking interfering. The more it opens up, the more I like it. I am looking forward to another glass with spaghetti al ragù. I'll give it a 91 and …

91. An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. Wife and I allowed the wine to breath for 3 days. Enjoyed with pork loin, roasted potatoes, and seared greens. Very smooth, well bodies wine with medium acidity which caused a bitter sweet taste with legs that linger in the glass. I'm matching James Suckling's rating however I'm not familiar with Malbec's, may rate differently if I try again in the future. Eye : Medium purple Nose : Plum, cherry, jam, …

Baked raspberry/cranberry aroma with some background generalized geologic notes. Sappy but not alcoholy. Palate is quite thin/watery. Cranberry notes emerge in the mid palate and quickly disperse. Some peppery notes on the back end. No oak or tannin noticeable. A bit bitter on the back end. Too sweet for me though not cloying. Not bad for price point of 10 dollars. 13.5%.

This is always a very easy drinking Malbec. The wine looks brick colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), plum, pineapple, light toast and nutmeg. It tastes like plum, pomegranate and light toast. The body is medium/full. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes long.

Beyond drinking window, but was making lamb stuffed cabbage and decided to go for it!!! Wonderful...deep ruby color, but a taste that was rich in texture as well as taste. Subtle fruits and tannins that adequately stand up to and enhance the sweetness of the lamb and cabbage, and also compliment the cumin I used in the lamb.

Opened as a point of comparison with a rather disappointing Catena Alta Malbec 2007, a wine that we had previously found to be quite stunning. This wine, at this age, came surprisingly close despite an enormous price difference. Good fruit, acidity and balance (with some late hints of parsley). Not in the same bracket as the top Malbec but incredible value at the price paid some years ago. Price-wise, the Alamos Malbec is difficult to beat IMO, given some bottle …

A year since our last bottle. All the characteristics mentioned in my note of a year ago but getting better with age. Good, sweet, dark cherry and damson fruit with some fragrant, spicy notes. Not as good as the Catena Malbec (high mountain vines) but almost half the price. Good value Malbec that benefits from modest cellaring.

Perectly acceptable straightforward, relatively simple, Malbec. At least as good after 1-2 days. Deep colour And good fruit and soft vanilla on the nose. The palate has good, juicy acidity and plenty of cherry fruit - red and black - plus mulberry notes. Food-friendly cherry and damson acidity on the long palate. Certainly worth cellaring after release, as with all Alamos wines. It isn't the regular Catena Malbec but it is not a wine to dismiss, especially at the price …

A mediocre wine and generally an ok value wine. Gets tired quickly as raspberry and a small amount of cola co exist on the tongue but then virtually no mid palette or lingering flavor. Just flat. No follow through with any nuance flavors. An ok juice which, at this graduation party, did not offend anyone.

Catena family from Argentina; supposed to be 100% Malbec but it got small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon along with Bonarda to enrich taste; matured in oak barrels for some time. Tasting: medium to full bodied wine; deeply fruity flavors of dark ripe raspberry cherry and berries with touch of vanilla and leather; enjoyable wine with character.

A really great deal at the $6.77 price at TotalWine. This wine is nicely balanced, smooth, and gives just a little more flavor complexity than the basic red blend. None of the unbalanced alcohol, metallic taste, or lack of acidity that you so often run into at this price. The nose is medium carrying dark fruits and some light spices. The palate is a tab thin, but provides subtle dark fruits, sweet tobacco, and black pepper. It finishes longer than …

Why do I spend so much time mucking about with cheap wine?! Better tasting plonk than last night but not saying much. If you want to drink Malbec as a fashion statement but don't really have a clue or actually like wine, this one's for you! In terms of a more useful review, let's see: It's red. It's wet. It's not gawdawful. It just is. There, see I'm not always Mr. Negatory.

Someone must have given this to me 10 years ago. Blown away how this - probably $7-10 wine drinks. Blown away that this cheap axx 2004 nonsense wine still is drinkable and not only that it's pretty good. At first pour the wine filled up the kitchen with rich aromas but then died down. Beautiful deep bright rich red color. No bricking - as clear as crystal....but red. Sat in the glass for 30 minutes while I was cooking and …

Much nicer for me than other reviews would indicate, Clean and clear, consistent claret color to rim. On the nose a little pencil lead but lush red fruit very evident on the palate. Smooth and velvety balance with fruit and tannins in total harmony. Moderate finish. The extra years of bottle age have been very kind to this wine. For the original price ($9 at Costco) this is one of the best QPR bottles of the year.

Deep dark ruby/purple core, narrow garnet meniscus. Brambly blackberry on the nose, with black cherry, fresh plum, and just a hint of herbaceousness, vanilla, smoke. Palate consistent with nose, along with medium, velvety but grippy tannins and commendable acid. Tannins are sweet, but not overripe, and I wonder if there may also be a little RS. Impressive medium to long finish, with assist from light oak and juicy acid carrying the fruit along. Not super complex, but much better than …

Dark red, however it is not clear... Sediments...cloudy Pums and dark cherries on the nose. A more pronounced smell of fruits confites... Candied fruits Oak plus candied fruits make up for a short length wine on the palate. Flavourful but short and simple. Still, for the price a nice option, but I would recommend catena malbec instead.
