Deep ruby. Sour cherry and cedar on the nose. Palate high acid high alcohol black cherries and cola, on the bold end of the spectrum, almost overbearing, but wears it pretty well and still kicking.

Kanzler has historically been one of the darker Pinot's in the AP Vin lineup. Tonight despite 11 years in bottle the wine continues to impress me. I like the more funky version of a PN and this one did not disappoint. Totally restrained fruit all the way through to finish. Blackberry, asphalt tar, mushroom flavors. Balanced acidty with a similar finish. Worth drinking now as I sense decline.

Repeating my notes of April 26. Fabulous wine once again. Such great balance.

Had among several 2012 AP Vin's. Boy do I miss Andrew and his wines. Going to buy as many as I can find in various auctions. Tonight like the other 12's this wine was singing and nearly perfectly balanced. Kanzler has more dark berry and earth than cherry. Simply lovely. this wine was fruit forward with blackberry fruit emerging over cherry. Such sweet fruits on a dry wine !!! Find some and if you disagree write back. For my taste …

In tastings of the A.P. Vin portfolio of Pinot Noirs, the Kanzler Vineyard has consistently been the outstanding wine. And this 2012 has improved significantly from 9 years of storage. Opaque black in color. A fuller bodied wine than most Pinot Noirs. Smoothly textured with a tannic undertow. Strongly fruity from smell to swallow, including black cherry, blackberry, and black currant. Excellent with a wide variety of foods, including meat balls, snails, and asparagus soup.

Drinking very well now -- still has years left. Red fruited, spice, meatinees, earthy, cherry. This has aged well -- in balance. Full bodied (yet not tannic) for a pinot. Far different than the 2015 tasting notes.

Someone else wrote "dark and brooding" and I think that's a good description. Dark color, dark fruit, light on the acidity. A bit pruney on the end. Sipping wine, not especially food friendly. 9/6/2018 Ditto 4/5/2019 Prunes and raisins.

I agree with some other tasting notes here. The wine was very hot for my taste, heavy tannins for a Pinot. Definitely should have waited a bit longer before opening this bottle up.

Update on day two -- came around nicely. Tannins are mostly resolved which leaves a lot of smooth fruit. Lost some of its nuance tho, and the heat is still protruding. Better, but still not a repurchase.

Opened too early -- not that the last half dozen TNs didn't provide fair warning. This is actually still quite raw and rough for what you'd expect. Definitely some burning heat, which combined with the stiff, young tannis makes for a pretty abrasive drink. Detected the now-expected APV spritz right off the twist, but it didn't hang on more than a minute or two. What's left is layered and concentrated raspberry, caramel, plum, cinnamon, cayenne, and mineral. Heavy-bodied for pinot, …

Darker maroon with a wafting brooding nose. Reports 14.9% alcohol; looks and feels consistent with that. Ripe dark fruits, slight medicinal quality, seems young and a touch hot but that is likely to resolve with time. Probably a longer term hold.

Like many very young Pinot Noirs, this wine poured out of the bottle lighter in color, somewhat disjointed, and with some odd reductive flavors of tomato leaf and spritz. But all it needed was more exposure to air to reveal its true quality. Tasting it slowly over almost two weeks, the color deepened to black, the reductive odors disappeared, and the wine got smoother and integrated. The primary taste became a delicious black cherry with a bright acidity and a …

After reading the other reviews, I understand where they came from. This is a very big pinot and probably would be challenging to pair with food but as an after dinner bottle to sit and sip on, I thought it hit the spot. Dark purple color. Nose of raspberry and blackberry jam with some strong caramel notes and a bit of sweet baking spice. Similar flavors on the palate with a very deep, dark red fruit flavor profile and some …

No detailed notes. Certainly not a favorite on the pop. With some time in the glass, this shows a bit more welcome integration. Big. Trending toward monolithic, one-dimensioal. An earlier reviewer describes this as a "cocktail". I can't dispute that. Reminds me a bit of some Kosta Browne I've had in the past. A "kick you in the teeth" style. Pinot flavors with Cab weight. Not what I'm into these days. This is one of the first AP wines I've …

Pop and pour (screwed off and poured is more like it) and tasted over a three day period (with breaks to sleep and go to work in between). Good bright color. Nose is a bit earthy and showing some spice and a slight cedar note. Good fruit but a bit disjointed. Just not showing a good balance between the acidity and the sweetness of the ripe fruit. Shows a little bit of heat as well. Slight improvement on day two …
