Retasted against August Eser Hattenheimer Wisselbrunnen and Oestricher Doosberg GGs 2021. This is 13.5% ABV against 12% for other two. It is clearly riper and predictably pronounced Pfalz yet still has the tautness and excellent stone fruit that set it between the two Rheingaus. A treat to compare both wines and regional variations.

Retasted this time against Ansgar Clüsserath's Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Trocken 2021. AC: ABV: 11.5%, RS: 5.3 gr/l, TA: 8.9 gr/l MR: ABV: 13.5%, RS: 5.1 gr/l, TA: 7.6 gr/l Fascinating comparison, demonstrating the best of Mosel terroir, crystalline clarity and purity versus very good Pfalz terroir, weight and ripe power. More forward than the AC. The latter good before the meal while this is definitely a food wine.

Update on my last notes. Tasted against the 2019. 2021: ABV: 13.5%, RS: 5.1gr/l, 7.6gr/l 2019: ABV: 13.0%, RS: 1.9 gr/l, 7.7 gr/l The 2019 (see separate note) is stunning and shows the beauty of this vineyard. Less balanced and Pfalz in its bone dry, taut structure. The 2021 is more complete and great potential. What an underrated terroir!

Tasted another bottle after the shipment had a week to test. Stunning and v complex. From the original vineyard planted by the Romans 2,000 years ago, this terroir is clearly distinctive. Pfalz opulence with spice and that red earth flavour .

From the first vineyard planted in Roman times in Germany, presumably this side of the Limes! Colour: pale straw, green tinge, bright, clear. Nose: full, fresh, spice combines with ripe fruit, stone fruits, white peaches. Taste: med body, rounded, good ripe fruit, white peaches, long finish, driven by fruit but dry. Overall, this is an excellent wine. From a volcanic site on red earth, this needs time. Tasting notes written after tasting the wine after 24 hours vacuvined 3/4 full …
