Forget Rioja from your supermarket. This is big stuff where Spain has moved into a different mode. The fruit is there, dark, brooding with some of spice. But it is the texture that counts: a nose that goes on forever, and speaks of the silence of depth; and the palette = Integritas, consinatis, clarits. A very fine wine.

Very young still in appearance, bright cherry colour. Nose still closed - I'd be confident to give this another 20 years. I've now seen enough evidence of Priorats ageing well to be sure I'm right on this one. Bit of a port sensation, but it has that classic Alvaro Palacios refinement (think Clos Dofí and Les Terrasses) - none of the rusticity or exaggeration that is sometimes found in lesser Priorats. Inky purple colour. Evocative nose of stewed berry fruits, clove, cinnamon, cocoa, some eucalyptus. Unctuous mouthfeel, quite rich with fine-grained tannin and lovely freshness. Feels very alive and nowhere near its end. Happily another 5+ years.

Tasted blind with flight of good Grenache based wines - not far behind the Dofi. Rich nose, lovely mature fruit and good length.

Medium ruby color. Delicate and expressive nose offering srtawberries, flowers, red rose petals, very fresh. On palate it's smooth, very well made, balanced, with red fresh fruit and liquid stones, medium bodied and a medium finish. Well done. (89-91)
