This had improved considerably since the last bottle I had. It still had really nice floral notes with strawberry but it had developed more forth and earth and made it much richer and more complex. Really lovely wine.

This has improved considerably over the last 15 or so months since I last opened one. But it’s still way too young. The fruit is beautiful, dark and deep. But there is too much tanin at present. This has a very long life ahead and needs more time. I will try again in 2026.

2018 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is perfumed and refined. The developing Pinot Noir is clear and pale ruby without any sediments. Aromas of wild strawberry, red plum, rose petals and lilac are followed by earth and a touch of spices. On the palate, it is dry and medium-bodied, balanced by a medium levels of supple tannin and acidity. Flavours of red cherry, hawthorn and plum sauce transition to Ceylon tea and savoury grilled mushroom in a long, poised finish. …

Bright black cherry fruit with a touch of oak/vanilla, salty wood notes, med. tannic grip and low-med acid. 13% Alc. This 1er blend is a perennial favorite in our house, but needs time at this stage for the oak to integrate I think. According to the Drouhin website “Since they are too small, these Premier Cru vineyards (Noirots, Hauts Doix, Borniques, Plantes, Combottes) are harvested and vinified together.” In the name of science, we tasted this blind against the Drouhin’s …

Definitely too young to open but drank it over two days. On the nose: roses, violets, a mixed bag of dark cherries and ripe raspberries come through with a hint of wet soil On the palate: the earthiness definitely comes through with a lot of structure and velvetiness. The fruits are on the darker spectrum with blackberries, black cherries.

Beautifully smooth, lovely strawberries and cherries with nice minerality. Very elegant mouthfeel and long finish. Really nice bottle.

Deeper and darker than more forward vintages like 14 & 15. Still has floral aromatics, but structure and a mineral component give it a serious tone

Medium to full body. Dark color and fruit. On the palate this is quite one dimensional and dull/flat from a fruit and acidity perspective, the main thing going for it is the structure. Balance falls apart into the finish, where fruit turns to tart dark cranberry although this softens a bit with air/decanting. This is much better with food, which distracts from these issues.

As others have said, this wine is heavy! It’s not yet fully integrated, but it’s good - and better with food. Not super complex, there’s a lot of cherry and underripe fruits. Not too much leather, but there’s mineral and forest floor at the end of the palette. I wouldn’t recommend this over other wines at the same price point. I shouldn’t open my next bottle any time soon. Maybe 5 years will reveal more *shrug*

Deep garnet with dark garnet-to-purple edge in color. Pungent nose of red berries, truffles and forest floor. On the palate: cherries, sweet earth and a hint of cola. Dusty tannins are not overbearing--perceived mostly on the gums. Persistent finish of red berry fading into saline.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY) : Walk around tasting. Bright red fruit seems so approachable, but there is sneaky weight and power that lingers. Brilliant textures make this particularly bright, which really helps in this "heavy" 2018 vintage. Very good length. 92-93 point potential.

Veldig lukket fra flasken, reduktiv. Åpner seg flott opp etter 30-40 minutter, toner av markjordbær, lakris og kjølig frukt. Veldig god lengde og balanse, passer trolig ypperlig til fugl. Kan lagre lengre.

Red and black cherry fruit, savory, earthy, briary, salty, touch of menthol. Interesting harbingers of good things to come. Not bad at all right now, but needs time to integrate and settle down I think. I'll check back ~ 2026 or so. 92-94 range for me. Follow up after 2 days on Coravin: Softened, more open now, showing ripe black berries and plum fruit, brown sugar notes all backed by briary-salty medium tannins and low-medium acid. Though labeled at 13% …

Joseph Drouhin Cellar Visit and Tasting with Vero (Beaune) : Barrel tasting at the domaine. A big step up from Chambolle AC. Bright red cherry and berry is clearly ripe, but texturally bright and refined. So much fruit supplemented with minerality, silky tannins and savory spice. Very balanced, very elegant. From several small holding across the village (I think Noirots, Hauts Doix, Borniques, Plantes, Combottes) that always combine for a very complex wine and usually a personal favorite from the …
