Dinner with Don: Lopez de Heredia (Siggy & Jennie's Place, Mpls, MN) : Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour plus next to the 2010. Both of these were singing tonight though I think I give the slight edge to the '11. The '11 was fresher overall; fresh air, shellac, lemon, lemon peel, fleshy and full bodied, peach pit, tart with more acid, fairly rich all that tart citrus on the finish. Really not getting much in the …

First tasking of this vintage. Happily, typical: Brilliant, golden, creamy, saline; suggestions of dried nuts and maybe hints of yellow curry. Fabulous over the course of a week, under Coravin Pivot.

Farewell to Young Joni (Young Joni, NE Mpls) : Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Prototypical Lopez Blanco, with Sherry, melon, citrus, shellac, dried lemon peel, fairly bright, full bodied, less oxidative and more fresh. 91+ to 92pts.

It’s a great and unique wine - but I’m Getting a little tired of the hefty salty element and variety in the oxidation. I will respectfully stop buying Tondonia except for the Gravonia which is much more versatile food wine.

This is a truly unique wine. A nose giving caramel, dried fruits, nuts, apple and oak influence. As it breathed over the course of a few hours, the caramel notes became more prominent, but there was never a sweetness to the wine that would accompany that taste and flavor. Will be seeking more out, seems like it would age basically forever.

More candle wax and fuel than normal, but served to a group so I didn't really get to follow it closely.

Quickie after work drink in the neighbourhood. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of integrated oak, baked white stones minerality, ripe citrus lemon and pineapple. Developed. On the palate, almost slightly off-dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of baked white stones minerality, refreshing but ripe citrus lemon, pineapple, peach, touch of orange marmalade, nicely integrated vanilla oak. Long …

Clean and pure style, not oxidative at all, sea breeze, fino-like florality, oaky but not toasty or vanilla-like, whiff of white mushroom, elegant weight, noticeable bitters, salted cream finish, orange zest, very good length. A relatively discreet vintage of this wine. Not as convincing as some other vintages from the decade before? At wine bar Oocker, Amsterdam, NL.

Classic Tondonia Blanco! Rich, waxy, nutty, bright… the list goes on. Give this plenty of air. It’s still rather closed upon opening and really developed with a few hours. I love these wines and glad to see that the 2011 is another good bottling.

90% viura, 10% malvasia. Interesting interplay between sweet and sour here. Sweet like peach and melon and beeswax. Sour from the rich and lactic feel. Doesn't feel 13 years old but these wines never drink their age. Really unique and it's easy to see why these wines have been gaining in popularity. Would buy several more.

Salted almonds, citrus peel and old wood on the nose. Textural, fresh and savoury on the palate. Long mushroom touched finish. Delicious.

Absolutely killer nose. Palate was a little light. Structure is there. Interested to see how this ages - hopefully picks up some body.

Consumed across 4 nights -- and best on the last night. What an awesome wine. Rich, waxy oak with well-integrated vanilla, an almost sherry-like dried fruit (mostly apricot), and a hint of clove. Grateful I've got 2 more bottles to sit on and see how they evolve.

Elegant vanilla oak with dried apricot/tropical fruit on the nose. Great high tasty acidity, still quite fruity with lemon and tropical fruit on the taste. Medium bodied, medium-long finish. I like this!

February 29, March 1, 3 & 5, 2024 My first try of the Tondonia Reserva Bianco. Wow. What a wine. It needs a little air, but then it’s a constantly shifting taste profile. Toasted marshmallow, honeysuckle, dried candied apricot, peaches, dried fig, roasted nuts. Lightning acidity, slightly waxy texture. Long finish with some saltiness and white fig. It was best on the first and last two nights. The second night it went through this weird phase where it smelled and …

Drank at House of Prime Rib. Went into this not sure what to expect. Came off pretty tart initially, with tart orchard and tropical fruit. Notes of cultured dairy came in afterwards, reminiscent of cultured butter, medium-sharp cheese, and sour cream. Alongside unripened yellow peaches and canary melon, touch of honey, this was quite the complicated wine. Hard to judge alongside food, but this lived up to the hype.

Nose: Pineapple, coconut, cedar, sandalwood, fino/manzanilla sherry. Palate: Lemon, pineapple, toasted coconut, spearmint. High acidity, medium+ body, some fine tannins from the oak. Wow, complex and unique. I have two more bottles that I'm going to sit on for a good, long while. Feels young and just a bit rough around the edges. I'll probably wait another 3 to 5 years before opening the next one. Merry Christmas. Day 2: I start to pick up on flavors of roasted almonds …

Double decanted in the morning, and drunk from absurd beakers in Tayyabs. Colour is deep yellow but not as far as some. On the nose, sherried, some high toned fruit notes. On the palate - waxy, lovely line to it, the oak is there but the acid keeps it under control. Clearly a long life ahead of it but drinking jolly nicely now. I shan’t say “I’ll wait a while before taking my next bottle out of storage” because that’s …
