Remains a bit rustic, powerful and tannic. Good, but unclear when it will mellow out and come together.

No Brunello made in this handover year. Sumptuous but not over the top. 2015 warmth but held in check. Went down very well with pork fillets

PnP. Deep ruby with brick edge in color. Nose of morello cherries, sweet earth & subtle vanilla. On the palate: morello cherries, morels, forest floor & warm spices. Sandy tannins perceived on gums, cheeks and tongue. Long finish of morello cherries, bitter cherry pith, vanilla and sandalwood. Wine is finally starting to reveal itself. Expect it might enter the front side of a very long peak drinking window another 1-2 years in the cellar.

PnP. Aromatic, floral, red berries, some plum, herbs, a bit of mineral edge. Medium bodied, balanced acidity with some nicely integrated grippy tannins. Very nice texture. Long dry finish. Had started to shut down by the last couple of glasses in the evening, but the last drops in the bottle smelled bright and fresh again the next day so I suspect this still has plenty of life left. Not your typical rosso (or maybe I need to let more rossos …

Gave this a 2 hour decant but it was nowhere near enough. A very serious rosso that needs another 3-4 years until it’s approachable. What is available right now is a touch austere. Attractive but austere. Loads of Italian herbs on the nose. Cherry. Menthol. Touch of iron. Palate is suave but the acidity is off the charts. Much better with food. Tannin is polished but grippy. This is going to be great once it comes around. 92-93.

PnP. Dark fruit, mineral, graphite. Plenty of acidity and tannin to go another 5-10 years, but (typically for the producer) not big on fruit.

Lovely herbacous nose, terracotta, deep but sweet cherry, bitter orange and a hint of chocolate. Red fruit leads the way on the palate with tangy cherry and pomegranate, really lip smacking - good balance of weight and fresh elegance to to this, youthful tannins but approachable now. A serious rosso - colour me impressed

Ruby with a slight orange tint on the rim. Lovely nose with ripe cherries, iron, herbs and leather. The cherry note is the most dominant on the palate, but the rather long finish has a bit of mint as well as some bitterness reminding me of cherry pit. Acidity is high and tannins are medium plus, but pleasantly coating.

Translucent garnet, no signs of age. Very fruity nose. Watery mouthfeel, very juicy more sweet plum than cherry,a little savoury, black olive. Grippy tannins, mildly drying but not unpleasant. Sweet slightly drying finish. Perfect for. Enough stuffing to hold but why? Lovely Last bottle just over a year later. Very similar impressions, although tannins better integrated, altogether a softer, easier wine to drink. Still a little drying on the finish but overall improved and really nice. Wish it wasn’t my …

Tuscan Lunch chez Joel (Kent countryside, UK) : Inky and showing forest floor with red fruits. Quite tight at the moment and tannic with hot rocks in evidence. After some time in the glass it broadens its shoulders and gains better balance. Did not enjoy this nearly as much as when I had this BTG and wonder if it would have shown better by itself following a decant? Served PnP.

Joel's Tuscan Lunch (The wilds of Kent) : Crunchy red plum, a little smoke, some Parma violet, tomato paste Really rich deep cherry, a hint of cough linctus (in a good way), fresh a lifted, sapid finish. Really really lovely finish. I thought this was an excellent example of how Rosso can play a different game to Brunello and excel at it.

Joel's Tuscan Lunch (A farmhouse in leafy Kent) : Rather high-toned on the nose, with lots of sweet red fruit, at times reminiscent of boiled sweets. Better on the palate, silky and elegant with the red fruit accented with spice and bolstered by tannin. A juicy but slightly short finish. Needs a few years for some savoury notes to develop and the wine to relax somewhat.

precise and clean with a mix of red berries and cherries, more structure than the Il Poggione and a bit darker tones, spice and ripe tannins. Could easily deal with longer cellaring time

I drink so little Tuscan wine, that I had to calibrate my palate for this. It hasn’t changed much from a few years ago. I prefer less ripe fruit, less polish, but it worked well with our meatballs and spaghetti.

Garnet red in colour with some translucence. Nose is dry extract of sweet red fruit. Silky tannins, medium to full bodied yet not particularly weighty even if there is substantial concentration as there is bright acidity so it remains fresh yet superbly balanced. Pomegrantes, violets, sour cherries on the palate with persistence on the finish. If you look hard there is oak but nothing brazen smuggled in. Still quite tight so will be better in a few years. (16,5/20) Young, strict, firm, yes, but already good. Complex wine, but very drinkable. Toasty and elegant. Medium intense aromas of red cherry, raspberry, red plum, violet, toast, espresso, tobacco, young leather, black pepper, eucalyptus. Dry wine, high acidity, high and fine-grained tannins, full body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 14% ABV - served @ Chambertin tasting Zoldering

I was fairly bearish on this wine when I first tasted about 18mos ago. It has gotten more approachable, with more fruit showing on the midpalate. But the midpalate is fleeting; not much density of fruit. There are still a lot of very savory, herbal notes on the palate which add interest. Very structured. However, I remain unsure whether the fruit and structure will find a balance. This was good, but disappointing QPR next to the La Valentina.

From glass. Nose of a perfume, of an earthiness, but not too giving. By glass's end some cigar, and a kind of "corned beef" dull meatiness. Initial impression on palate of arresting acidity within a dry, leathery frame, and of fullness of palate. Earth, sweet dark licorice, and leather, with nuances of red fruit - "roasted rhubarb," savory cherry - coming out later. Persistent dark finish. Very savory. Clean. Fine. Pretty darn good.

Double decanted the night prior for 3 hours; served non-blind. Lovely, classical expression offering lovely structure and detail. Vibrant red fruits that are coiled notwithstanding the prior aeration. A wine to revisit in about 5-8 years depending on your palate preferences. Very good, and solid value at the €40 I paid. HOLD. highly recommended http://www.italianwine.blog

The aromatics are rather muted. The palate has fruit on the darker side (not my preference for Sangiovese) that seems hidden behind the tannins. IMHO, the way this wine resembles a Brunello (rather than a Rosso) is not in quality, but rather that the fruit/tannin balance puts it several years away from drinkability. But I was not taken aback by the quality, or a sense of potential. Make no mistake--it is a very good wine, and I'm happy with it …

Double-decanted for aeration 2 hours, returned to bottle and served the following day. Lovely rosso wine, with all the elements in place, save the complexity that will no doubt follow in the coming years. Good+ structure, and not too surprisingly, the final sip was the best. Wouldn't be surprised if there was still a lot to love in another 8-10 years. HOLD. recommended , and likely to bracket up with time. http://www.italianwine.blog

I know I'm drinking a winner when my wife and daughter each reach for the bottle. Not sure I've ever drunk a "Rosso di Monatalcino" but this was among the best Brunellos I've tasted. Unbelievable price/quality ratio.

An attractive wine, the 2015 Cerbaiona has a lovely garnet hue, limpid texture, and a soaring nose showing spicy griotte cherries, musk, forest loam, freshly baked blueberry muffins. There is a lovely inner palate tension here: the wine is ripe but not to the point of being overtly sweet, acidity and tannins frame the story, great mineral support. Drinking well now with some time to breath, but may merit a higher score in a few years.

This 2015 Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino is fragrant and surprisingly approachable. Tasted blind – Sweet red berries, Cabernet Sauvignon? dark berries, cassis, polished new oak. Bordeaux blend? Great ripeness and sweet blackberries that could come from Napa, slight alcohol on the palate. 2013? Napa Valley or Super Tuscan? Cabernet Sauvignon? I was very wrong… (87/100)

Lovely, fruit-driven wine. As I understand the first vintage where the new owners have had control over everything after taking over from Diego and Nora Molinari in late 2015. Fruit is sculpted with precision and very clean, a mix of cherries and red berries with a tad darker tones from minerality and herbs lurking. Lovely acidity, perfectly ripe tannin and just a smidgen spice from what has to be new oak barrels. Not very complex at this stage, but certainly …
