Napa Cellars, Zinfandel, Napa Valley

Wat een prachtige wijn, 17 jaar oud, maar nog zoooo levendig. Roestbruine kleur met donkere troebele kern. In de neus kastanje, aardbei, ananas, rode paprika en gember; subtiele houttinten. Het smaakprofiel is zeer elegant, gladde tannine, fijne zuren, licht mondgevoel, mooie balans. Zacht rood fruit in combinatie met chocola en gebrande pindanoten, kruidigheid van gember en selderij. Beetje aards en een vleugje lactisch. De afdronk laat zuren tevoorschijn komen naast zacht fruit en mooie alcohol balans.

Een van mijn favorieten, zie vorige notitie. Na 12 jaar is de wijn nog zeer levendig, fruitig en nu prachtig in balans, met granaatappel, mango en ramboetan. Zijdeachtige tannines, fluwelen zuren, beetje chocola en vanille. Kruidig, met beetje koriander en kaneel. Prachtige balans en afdronk

Ik heb de wijn al eerder beschreven. Deze fles opengemaakt op de dag van het virtuele kampioenschap van Ajax, zondag 12 mei. Hoewel ik de wijn nog erg waardeer, krijgt hij nu geen 90 punten, maar 88. Het fruit was een stuk minder en de zo prachtige dikke structuur begint al te minderen. Nu iets meer krenten en rozijnen net een mooie kruidigheid, mooie houttonen, bessen en tabak. Nog steeds erg lekker

Zinfandel should not taste like blackberry jam. Hints of blackberries are fine. This wine goes way beyond hints.

Schitterende wijn. Niets dan lof. Toevoeging aan mijn vorige proefnotitie: veel rijper bessenfruit en nog steeds elegante zuren en tannine. Heerlijke melkchocola hinten. Ik heb de levensduur van de resterende 4 flessen met 3 jaar verlengd, tot 2023. Ben benieuwd volgend jaar

Een van mijn favorieten, nog altijd (zie vorige proefnotities) De wijn is alleen maar verder ontwikkeld in z'n portachtige structuur. In de neus iets meer gedroogd fruit en tabak. Opvallend was een hint van 'gerookte zalm'. De tannines zijn verder ontwikkeld terwijl alle fruittonen nog aanwezig zijn. Gelaagde structuur, elke keer proef je iets 'meer'. Ik heb nog 6 flessen, smullen!

Diep donker paarsrood van kleur. De neus van uitbundig kersen en zwart fruit, ananas en mangoestan. Een fantastisch smaakpalet met dik sap, een aangenaam port-achtig zoetje, romige tannines en zachte zuren. Schitterende balans met jammy zwarte bessen, aardbei, kers en romige chocola. Mooi geintegreerd vanille tonen en eikenhout; kruidigheid van kaneel en zwarte peper. Heerlijk lange afdronk ondanks 14% alcohol. Een van mijn favorieten!

Wonderful. One of the best Zinfandels I ever had. Light reddish colour. Fantastic flavour, great variety of dark red fruits, dried blossom, spicy vanilla and cinnamon. Silky tannins and smooth acidity. Powerful in the mouth with dark chocalate and mushrooms. Long finish, with raisins, pepper and parsely, very balanced. I have some bottles left and I think I have to drink them soon!

Very nice Zin- well balanced with hints of soft tannins and nice berries. Went well with Charcoal Smoked (cherry & apple wood ) grilled chicken and 3" thick Pork Chops with a spicy dry rub on the meats. Will defiantly buy again and maintain in our cellar.

Quite an intense bouquet of red fruit, smoke and spice. Ripe dark berries, black pepper and integrated oak, very smooth and good long finish. Carries its 15% alcohol very well!

Very nice, balanced zin - chocolate notes on the nose plus ripe red fruit there and on the front palate. Medium tannins and finish. Goes well with rich tomato pasta sauce. Would be good with grilled meat as well.

As with the other reviews I've given of this wine, it is fruit forward with medium body and a consistency across vintages that only comes from Napa Valley. This can go with a wide range of meals that have red meat. The tannins are low, and the finish medium. Medium spice for a zinfandel.

2008 vintage

This is a very fruity zinfandel for Napa Valley, but without the overly "jammy" taste you get from less-sophisticated wines. The fruit is stronger than the spice, but there's also a little pepper in here, as one might expect from a zin. The finish keeps going and the best part about this wine is that it's extremely consistent. If you like it with one meal and with one particular vintage, a different meal or different vintage seems to work just …

I've paid twice as much for zins I've enjoyed half as well. Not huge on the nose but delightful in the mouth with a jammy balance of blackberry, pepper and some Prince Albert. I got very little heat, maybe it's mellowing a touch with time.

Very nice, though a bit pricey at 17.49. We believe that "The Zin" from Cosetino represents a better value.

Overall very nice. Jammy, but not generic zin. Smooth blackberries and smoke. I'd definitely pick up another bottle.

Deep purple color. Lovely bouquet of blackberries and toffee and spices. Vibrant fruit up front, with black cherries and blackberries, then white peppercorns leading in to a good long finish. The 15% alcohol is balanced by the fruit making this a mouth-filling glassful to enjoy on its own or with a good steak.

This wine was surprisingly good! It has nice dark fruits on the nose with hints earth and fall leaves. The taste is fruit forward but not overpowering. It is very well balanced with medium soft tannins. It has a nice medium length vanilla oak finish. This is a very drinkable Zin without the harsh pepper and spice finish. At $16.00 we will definitely stock up on this wine for our casual enjoyment.

Look: Clear ruby. Nose: Smoky liquorice, very jammy. Taste: Heavy, heavy fruit, medium length. Medium body, not much in tannins or acidity. The alcohol burns a bit at the back of the mouth. A good and straightforward Zinfandel.
