Font-Sane, Gigondas, Futee

Raised in new oak and it shows. I can't think of any Grenache based wines that benefit from being raised in new oak and this one doesn't either. Dry with notes of pine forest and mint. The fruit is cool, not impacted by the warm vintage but unfortunately also dried out by the oak. I'm happy I don't own more of this.

Much better than the last bottle, much less oak influence and much more local character even if this is a somewhat polished wine. On the cool side, not marked by the vintage. Happy, though, not to own this in any other vintage.

No, not good. Elevated on new oak which dries out the fruit and robs the wine it's local character. For the international flyer, not for me.

Brought to WWS wine dinner. Dark red core. Nose of leather & earth, along with some barnyard. Medium bodied, tannins mostly resolved, decent amount of black fruit remaining nicely balanced by tertiary elements, including mushroom, earth, leather and the like. This wine was surprisingly vibrant and quite enjoyable at this late date. Well preserved, good fruit & acidity level, with excellent complexity and balance. Matched a mushroom dish served with it perfectly. A very pleasant treat!

Medium garnet. Oak is all over the nose here, but at least it's French and fine: cocoa-laced gingerbread as opposed to vanilla cream. A little black fruit manages to peek through on the second day. Sweet and long in the mouth, where the black fruit is more prominent. A subtle note of tarragon (the only herb in sight here) and some major tannins leaning towards rusticity are the only clues this might be Gigondas. Oh, and the price, too, quite …
