At Jupiter NYC. To get the most of this wine you need to pay close attention to it, as immediately after opening it has an overbearing barnyard funk that takes 15-30 to blow over in glass. Thereafter there is a brief 5-10 minute window when the wine shines with finely grippy tannins and trademark Leroy concentration before fading quickly. This is supposedly declassified RSV juice, and you’ll certainly glean ephemeral glimpses of its glory, but it is holistically over the …

We drank this next to the 1976 NSG village which a friend opened the night before. This felt the more resolved. On opening this was rustic and sois bois on the nose. There was nice vosne spice and a robust tannic structure. This softened over time but I do realize that this will will benefit from at least a few hours of air. Will definitely do so for the remaining bottles.

Opened this at 5 pm and drank this at diner. Great nose and palate but just felt that it was a little shorter than hoped. Hope the other bottles perform better.

We started the flight of red with this and it was a wonderful showing. Very youthful with plenty of clean red fruit. Some tannins are apparent and the fruit can't quite overcome the tannins but the Leroy spice and quality was there. Someone mentioned that this had some declassified grand cru juice in it. I would not be surprised. It held up quite nicely next to the 61 Musigny, the 69 Clos Vougeot, and 69 Echezeaux.

SAG (Blind) Tasting (Chez Weber - Chicago IL) : Tasted double blind. Immediately recognizable as Vosne from the Asian five spice jumping out of the glass. Chewy, fresh red fruit with great density. Long with lots of subtle nuance and layers. George says this is declassified Grand Cru, which certainly doesn't surprise. Substantially better than another bottle from several years ago.

Both bottles didn't handle the recording and gas very well…over the hill

Not as good as the 76 Pommard Vignots, but ignoring the 3 corked bottles out of 11, still a very enjoyable wine. More powerful than the Pommard, but about same amount of bricking. Fruit not quite as dominant, but still a very enjoyable wine at this age. Served with Dry aged duck with sweetbreads and foie gras. Very good match.

Very well stored, got better over a couple hours. Very good example of older Leroy.

Eighth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL) : Good earthy aromas, some lingering red fruit along with modest spice. Similar on palate. Very interesting, still enjoyable. Paled in comparison to its 1978 counterpart in the same flight.

Tarry red fruit aromas. Brown sugar and earth. Still more than enough red fruit aroma. In addition hazelnut and mint on the palate. Medium tannin. Medium plus acid. Hanging on with all that tannin and acid, but that hazelnut suggests shorter days ahead. Drink up I'd say.

Well past its prime. Fruit stripped away, acid core remaining. Interesting, but would not go out of my way to drink this again.

Very clear, light garnet red. Seems to have a very slight oxidized nose but not enough to ruin the wine. Nice texture on the palate though the tannins are surprisingly firm. Long finish with some pepper, red fruits and lively acidity. Fruit seems to be fading a bit at this stage.

Animal funk. Still tannic and acidic but the fruit has moved to tertiary tones. Most interesting thing was the pronounced nose of earth, mushrooms and forest floor. Those smells really arrive eventually. Where will/can it go from here? Some tasters really loved it but is that because they are "supposed to" love an aged 1er Cru LeRoy? Sorry, I wasn't feeling this one. Interesting intellectually, but past its prime. Got more gamey and rotten fruit as it opened. Had some …

Apperence: not quite tawny but a pale or dull garnet with some bricking or seperation at the rim. Nose: pronouced nose of truffles, smoke, very faint traces of primary fruit. Fully developed. Palate: medium + acidity with medium + tannins, long finish, very complex palate but very drying body. Conclusions: hard to decide if this is going to age farther or not. Definately of very high quality.

oxidized nose I couldn't get past...was decent on palate but I have to think this is 10 years past its apogee

Wow, what a nose. A fungal funk. Mushrooms and earth. Almost a stewed tomato thing going on. The nose stuck around for the length of the bottle. Surprised by the tannins that are still very present. Silky and somewhat ethereal body. Really mushroomy, dried fruit and flower flavors. Still very vibrant and alive. Amazing bottle of wine.

still very much alive...nose is nothing special...leather and some red fruits...decent mouthfeel but no wow factor...bought this after a re-release from domaine...would not rebuy given the QPR I assign to the wine

so Pinot noir from 1976. I asked another taster wat they thought of aging pinot as I was nosing. On the nose there shoe leather and tomato. I was not hopeful, but I was wrong. On the palate there was beautiful plummy fruit with a silky texture bright cherry and the acidity wasstil vibrant. I am impressed.

The bottle had great color and a pure pinot noir nose. Cherries and currant filled the mouth. Nice tannins gave it great structure. The bottle opened up even more as the wine sat in our glasses. We drank with filets with porcini mushroom rub, seared over natural charcoal and finished in a cast iron pan with a herb butter. The two really sang beautifully together! It is drinking great now, but there are still years left in the peak drinking …
