Barberani, Classico Luigi Giovanna, Orvieto

Luigi & Giovanna Barberani Orvieto Classico Superiore DOC Umbria – Orvieto Grechetto + Procanico (blend) 2021 ~18 Giallo dorato, naso fruttato e vanigliato. Bocca morbida e minerale, note di miele e pietra focaia. 5% di uve con botrytis. Lungo potenziale evolutivo.

Bought £26.00 at the Wine Soc UK. Nose….not much, a hint of yellow stone fruit crushed T…..lovely round soft yellow white stone fruit, enough depth to charm me too; not a lot of mineral profile but the fruit carries the day anyway. Better than the Orvieto I had seen most vintages for the last 30 years. Clearly things are looking up. QPR?……£26.00, it feels worth 50% of that only. I wouldn’t buy this again.

Light golden colour, honeyed nose. This had some viscosity, vestigial white stone fruit and plenty of rich, creamy body on the spine of acidity. Feels weighty. As an exercise in aging Orvieto I’d say this is just about worth the time and restraint. Not an aperitif wine but goes well with salad nicoise.

Much enjoyed by all a a tasting. Still drinking well.

extraordinary honeyed mouthfeel. Rich and with a long developing finish- honey, lemon and bitter spices. Super.

honey, floral, spice, lemon. butter, hint of almond- in that sequence. the lemon balances the honey beautifully. rich, luscious but refreshing. in no way past it, drinking beautifully

Subtle white (Grechetto) wine with a delicious rich flavour, a hint of honey, but still crisp, tart and very enjoyable
