Picked up from cellar, decanted for 2 hours. Lots of fruit on the palate, mostly black cherry, but also a little raspberry, and some blueberries. Very smooth and velvety. Medium finish.

I’m not typically very into Syrah, but didn’t get any of the bite I normally do out of Syrah from this one. All fruit. Very soft. Loved it.

PNP. Deep, dark maroon color. Black fruit and oysters on the savory nose. Brambly, savory palate with nice acidity. Soft tannins on the medium short finish. This is likely at the end of it’s good drinking window.

Opened one hour before drinking (no decant). Deep, dark rusty maroon color. Complex nose of cola, carmelized radish, anise and tar. Very smooth palate. Rounded, supple tannins on the medium finish.

Opened 30 min before drinking (no formal decant). Deep, dark maroonish purple color. Cured meat, smoked oysters and cigar on the rich nose, with some prune in the background. Super smooth, deep palate. Minimal tannins on medium long finish. This is a well made Syrah in its prime.

One hour aeration in glass. Deep black cherry color. Wonderfully complex nose arcs from meaty/ashy up front to floral (tulips and dried violets) on the back end. Smooth palate. Rounded tannins on medium long finish. I enjoyed every aspect of this wine.

A bit hard, bloated and overly savory right out of the bottle - felt more like a Carmenere vs. a Cab, but it unfurled after a while showing more brightness and sweetness. Pleasant enough but maybe a bit over-priced.

Some sediment, requiring decanting. After an hour or two decanting, tannins mellowed and definitely ready to drink. Was very nice, but may be starting to be past due, so I recommend drinking up.

Big nose. Some vegetal bell pepper notes perhaps due to the subprime vintage. Palate is all dark fruit. Ripe strawberries, dark cherry, blueberry and raspberry. Some wet stone and graphite on the long finish.

A bunch of wines on a Sunday afternoon/evening (Kurt & Kims) : Purple in color. The nose has cassis, bell pepper and a thick streak of celery. Everything I don't like about the downside of many 11's (there are some very good ones). On the palate, the texture is quite good. Some cassis, but the celery/green streak pervades the mid-palate. Certainly worth drinking and food helps. Perhaps with age it develops more, but tonight, its just not what I like …

28th California Futures Tasting (Mandarin Oriental DC) : very similar to the 2010 8/10 - slightly heavy body probably due to the age. Lighter fruit.
