Delicate yet brooding, still tightly coiled. Earthy tones, but the primary ripeness means no vegetal tinge. I think something special lurks here in time. Privilege wine. A Medium+ bodied wine with red and black fruit, violet & rose primary, cedar & nutmeg secondary and no tertiary flavours, Medium+ acid, Medium+ tannin and Medium (13%) alcohol. We rated this wine Outstanding.

Complex yet restrained red plum aromas. Quite austere but the fruit is there. Should develop well.

Starting to sound like a broken record, but at 16 years old this wine is still vibrant & fresh. Tasted after a 45 minute decant. Dark ruby in colour with a distinct garnet hue. Aromas are lovely, slightly earthy liquorice & leather. On the palate, full bodied tart & juicy black fruit, boysenberry/blackberry, sweet tobacco/chocolate, floral/lavender, slightly herbal, well integrated oak, medium acidity, medium soft tannins with a long finish to black pepper & leather. The wine has retained good …

On the palate, full bodied tart & juicy black fruit, cassis/ blackberry/boysenberry, floral/lavender, leather, well integrated oak, high acidity, medium soft tannins with a long finish to black pepper, liquorice & chocolate. Still remarkable flavour after 15 years!

Tasted after a 45 minute decant. Dark ruby in colour with a hint of garnet. Aromas of earthy forest floor & sweet black fruit, transitioning quickly to lovely aromas of leather, black liquorice & chocolate. On the palate, full bodied slightly tart & juicy black fruit, cassis/blackberry/boysenberry, chocolate, leather, sweet tobacco, somewhat savoury, high acidity, medium soft tannins with a long finish to black pepper, black liquorice & chalky minerality. This wine is 14 years old but still tastes fresh …

Purchased as a Yarra Yering Museum Release in 2020 by friends in Perth. All the bottles survived a luggage ride to Canada, and this the first opening tastes wonderful! Tasted after a 60 minute decant. Lovely, but somewhat subdued aromas of stewed fruit, chocolate/caramel & leather. Colour is medium ruby with a distinct garnet rim. On the palate, medium to full bodied juicy/tart black fruit, blackberry/boysenberry, chocolate/caramel, leather, savoury, earthy, herbal (Eucalyptus?), medium acidity, medium soft tannins with a long …

A shiraz / viogner blend and it is an elegant and seamless wine. A wink to Northern Rhone and a nod to cool climate shiraz. A spice, slightly peppery and performed nose, laced with hints of berries, plums and fine oak. Body was silky thanks to the viogner but grew bigger as the Shiraz comes out to play. Freshness from the shiraz that held the wine together. Fine tannin and lovely smooth finish that lingers longer than an unwanted relative. …

I amble to the lectern to deliver this note, hoping that my blood alcohol level won't register too directly on the audience. Staring myopically at the jumble of paper before me, I am rescued by a sotto voce message from my trusted assistant at stage left "Your note is under the porno, next to the Magpie, sir." By Jove, so it is. "Tonight's thingy is on this Yarra Yering chap, out of the colonies." My eye drifts to the fleshy …

Leather, baked earth, slight dried our almost pruney fruit with touches of dried herbs, raisins, charcuterie, chocolate. Quite raisined and volatile on the palate, plenty of alcohol, polished oak lends cedar, caramel, lashings of chalky drying tannins closes things down a bit, bit of a beast in this line up...not for me.

Beautiful. Wonderfully integrated. Blackberry cordial, thyme, rosemary, faint hints of vanilla. Just goes and goes.

Showing some wonderful blackberry richness from bottle ageing, both on the nose and palate. It showed best on decanting and was a little less expressed on the table 2 hours later. At its peak, though will hold for many years.

Shiraz with a small amount of Viognier. Developing beautiful, rich, ripe Yarra Yering flavours and aromas. Wonderful balance. Good length. Drinking well now and will continue to for many years.

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.) : Many years ago I visited this place and bought a few bottles of the '08 of this. Left them with a friend for safekeeping and they ended up being drunk and given that was the last vintage of the previous winemaker it was basically impossible to find them so we ended up with half a case of these. Interesting to get to try. Again there is something …

Med to Dark colour. Uber-rich, ripe fruit on the nose, foresty, plummy, blackcurrant. A lovely smooth palate, ripe blackberries and plums, some tar and licorice, intensely flavoured but structurally quite refined. Tannins are silky and acid gentle.

Medium dark core. Earthy and rich, ripe dark fruits, coffee and iron filings. Smooth, soft palate, fine acidity and silky fine tannins. Dark plummy fruit, blood, earth, tar, brambly, with a quite noticeable streak of coffee. Complex and very rich, yet not too heavy given the silkiness. Finishes clean and refined, lovely structure.

A fantastic Yarra Valley Shiraz! 2009 was a horrific year in the Valley with bush fires devastating the area. I had heard that smoke taint had affected most if not all of the 2009 Yarra Valley crop, but to my taste there is none here. This wine has a long road ahead of it, if only I can keep a few bottles long enough.

Shiraz with small amounts of Marsanne and Viognier. Nose was closed and not showing much even after much swirling. No hints of the 2 whites on the nose. Palate was disjointed and a little harsh. It was hard to see where this would go. It needed far more air than it was given to show well.
