Absolutely in a great spot, but still many years to go. I would never have guessed 1999. The style reminds me a lot of Aldo Conterno and the grapes are from same area of Bussia. If you like Aldo Conterno, this is a must buy. It’s pricey but cheaper than Aldo Conterno for same quality. Recommend.

Decanted for 1+ hours, could last a few more years but again, why wait? Great drinking now. Complex nose (earth, mushroom, tar, licorice) and gives way to a palate that includes dark cherry, tar, licorice, a hint of sherry (age) and chocolate, and finishes long with soft tannins. The family who owns Rocche dei Manzoni acquired this vineyard in the late 90s…could it be because of the deliciousness of this wine? A great cellaring selection from my friend Gabrio Tosti …

Nice noise. Licorice, earthly dark color, smooth tannins, great finish. Decanted 3 hours and drank with pasta and sausage.

Traveled 300 miles and then decanted for 3 hours. The wine is medium dark but translucent garnet. It has a very fragrant nose with dark red fruit, vanilla, chocolate, spices and roses. Palate is consistent with the nose and very layered and complex expressing cherry, chocolate covered cherries, gravel and pomegranate. It has a chewy rich mouthfeel and a long finish. Really good but better with time in the decanter

nose - powerful, potent nose of serious white truffle, in a way i havent seen before (except perhaps in Sandrone's Valmaggiore). mouth - lovely complex fruit, huge tannins, almost painfully young. Serious power here. Hold.

This wine has really opened up in the last year with good fruit and length. No rush to drink these but no need to wait either. 6 hour slow ox

Antiquum Farm Wine Dinner (New Jersey, USA) : Decanted about 4 hours before the start of dinner. The wine was a dark Rruby /garnet and yet still slightly translucent, showing no real sign of its almost 2 decades of age. Big and powerful yet balanced and elegant. The nose had black licorice/fennel, earthy mushroom, a hint of truffle, cherry, leather and tar. The tannins were mostly integrated yet still present and structured. The flavors were bright and energetic, yet not …

Decanted and put back in bottle at 2pm and drunk from 4pm to 9pm. Rich dark but somewhat translucent ruby. Nose is forward and round with cedar, leather, earthy mushroom, truffle and cocoa. Great mouthfeel with enough tannin to keep it lively but not in the way at all. Flavors are balanced, rich and complex with chocolate, licorice, tar, cherry, truffle and mushroom. Long finish. Wonderful! One person in the group thought it was a bit oxidized but I did …

This drank very well after a 2 hour decant. Again the oak is very well integrated and the wine was silky, smooth and finessed on the palate. Fruit was young and finish was elegant and lengthy.

Wonderful fruit after a few hours open. There is still huge structure for the next 5 years at least. No rush. A great deal at Wine Watch when these were offered.

Another impressive bottle. For a more modern style wine this really drinks well. Oak is very well integrated and the wine kept evolving in the glass. This bottle was harmony in the glass with a seductive finish. Decanted for 90 minutes.

Much less developed than first, flawed bottle from small case. Shortly decanted half of bottle (and kept rest for day 2). Solid ruby with slight bricking at the translucent rim, earth, cherries, floral notes, medium to strong tannins, long finish. Needs several more years for the fairly strong tannins to soften but will be excellent once/if that happens and we do not get more of those very subtle Sherry flavors on the palate. 93+

Short decant and drank over 2.5h. Ruby but clearly bricking outside the centre. Lot's of sediment even though the bottle had been standing upright for 2 weeks. Upon pulling the cork, a fairly strong (oxidized) Sherry note, and lots of alcohol on the nose make me worried. After the short decant things settle down and the alcohol (14.5%) integrates but the Sherry note is here to stay, together with a strange fermented note on the nose. On the attack this …

Atlanta offline at Kevin Rathbun's Steak (Kevin Rathbun's Steak) : Slow-O 1 hr. Dark ruby core, no sign of age. The French oak seems to surround the core of dark red berry/cherry fruit but not to the point that either overwhelms. Red floral, sappy, spicy. Very approachable, with lively acids and copious fruits on a full-bodied frame. Softer tannins than I'd imagined it would have at this young age. This went pretty quickly once it was passed around. Drink thru …

Popped and poured side by side with 1964 Barolo. This wine while still a baby packs a big punch, definitely modern in style and has scratchy tannins which are getting better but still need a decade to resolve. Rose petals, dry flowers, concentrated and the finish is 40 seconds long.

Modern style Barolo, 14.5% alcohol and it feels like it. Other than that, it's a very well made Barolo, very young, indeed, but should age well.

great aromatics; delicately perfumed with a hint of that nebbiolo tar. on the palate this wine is still horrifically tannic. like nails. in need of at least another 4-5 years of aging...

A nose of violets. Deep maroon and purple color with copper on the rim. Extremely well balanced and drinking beautifully right now, but it has the balance and strength to age for year. Dark fruit gives way to tobacco and earth. Terroir oozes from beautiful wine. Mellow, but consistent tannins are seamlessly integrated. There is very little evidence of the three years this reserve barolo spent in oak.

Another blockbuster wine from Robert Chadderdon. While I am not a fan of the use of new French oak, this wine while aged 3 years in French barrique followed by one year in an oak cask, displays very little oak on the palate. Instead the palate is that of a traditionally made Barolo and finishes superbly. Built for aging.
