91 Excelente Albillo.

Bodegas Ponce tasting (Oinoscent) : This is pure Albilla, 13.50% Reductive at first,onion/garlic like, light floral notes, ripe stone fruit and pear. The wine shows higher intensity in palate, medium intensity overall, medium to high acidity, mineral, medium body, medium finish, quince, ripe pear and lime.

Sample tasting at work (Oinoscent) : The wine shows low intensity with a herbal/garlic combo. Its strange in palate too, showing medium body, aggressive character, tannic bite, lemon peel, high acidity and long finish.

Much better than previous bottle, without the oxidation. Great acid, nice medium-plus texture, pale white fruits and citrus, thyme, a bit of seaspray, with a hint of popcorn nuttiness. Refreshing and everything you want in a $16 summer white.

A bit disappointed given how enthused I was with the 2014. Softer, less acid, and without the explosive aromatics. Palate shows apple/pear juice, perhaps on its way down, supported by minerals and citrus pith, but without much charm.

Pale lemon colour, ripe lime and minerality on the palate with the zest of lemon, lime plus pear, melon, apricot, greengage and nettle flavours and with soft textures with a hint of tangy salinity. Good, slight preference for this vintage versus 2015 vintage.

Very good Spanish white. Somewhat bigger in body than many, and it seems to me that Albillo resembles what I've come across in Treixadura. Good authenticity. Solid buy.

Good summer white. Soft entry with some salty mineral notes and a twist of white pepper

12/17: Confident and nervy. Lots of non-fruit complexity on the nose that remind me a bit of Raventós' Silencis Xarel-lo. Extreme minerality/salinity, piercing, but fleshy and never austere. 90-91+ 03/19: understated and textured. Theme is salinity (it's almost salty!) and earthy root vegetable flavors? Reminds me a little of kiralyudvar's sparkling wine. 90

Really interesting wine that is hard to pin down. I found myself comparing it most closely to a dry style vouvray. Nice tropical fruits with added ginger. It was absolutely sensational with lobster. Too much oak to drink on its own, however.

interesting wine - nice nose, it is weighty without being over-bearing, high acidity. Very good with fish, pasta, salad. Best right out of the bottle. There is some oak influence that is not an issue when the wine is cold, but it is more noticeable as it warms. Good, but perhaps could be better with less wood.

Moderate aromatics of white flowers, stone fruit, touch of vanilla oak, even some oxidative nuttiness. Juicy yellow peach on the palate, with tropical fruit like mango and passionfruit. Rich and smooth mouthfeel with a subtle sweetness that persists without being cloying. Overall, a commendable wine with plenty of character.

Did not enjoy this as much as the first bottle. Noticed the oak more, and the honeyed quality did not seem as well-balanced by acidity. Still enjoyed it though.

Delicious! First night: Drank with spicy Asian food. Honeyed nose with lush fruit on the palate, particularly limes and some stone fruit, balanced by spice and minerals. Substantial mouthfeel, good acidity, long finish, nice balance. Third night: still quite lively, the fruit has shifted more to citrus exclusively, including lemons and oranges, plus a fresh scent of meadows.

Albilla de Manchuela is native to the Manchuela in the Alto Cantabria. There are a mere 15 hectares in the whole world. Pale, lemony green. Reserved nose yet bright with pure grapefruit accented by a mineral touch as well as toast and vanilla from oak. Sappy with radiant citrus core and a long, delicious finish.

The Dirty Dozen Tasting 2013 (Il Botaccio, London) : Nose is a touch sweaty. Nutty, deftly sculpted palate. Some honey notes initially but finishes dry thanks to rapier-like acidity. Very good. 17/20.
