Happy belated Sangiovese Friday 👃 Ripe cherry, black tea, leather, charred oak and bay leaf 👅 Medium-bodied (AbV 14%) with firm velvety tannins (m+), lively acidity (m+), juicy cherry and licorice on the palate, concluding with a hot finish which could be longer 📝 For a Chianti Classico this is good. Identical to my previous note. A brief decant is all it needs to shake off some carbon dioxide. A lovely expression of Sangiovese and of Chianti Classico.

Steely Sangiovese backbone, palpable minerality, finely grained tannins, a hint of spice, medium body, lovely morbidezza on the palate and very good complexity in the fruit flavours (orange, peach, red berries, sour cherry), good persistence. Excellent value, a very attractive wine.

Second bottle much better, well balanced and very drinkable.

An old vine CC with dry finish.

Just had a quick taste of this. Feels a bit muted and tight knit but there is definitely lots of potential waiting to be released. Clearly in the old school style of Chianti Classico with a more earthy, balsamic approach. The fruit is really in the bright red spectra with lots of floral overtones. Probably needs another 5 years to open up properly. 90+.

Compared to the 2018 Riserva which was delightful, this is quite a big step down and currently quite poor QPR. I’ll bury the remaining bottles for a couple of years and hope that the acidity comes down a few notches.
