Bolgheri 2023 Anteprima (67 Pall Mall, London) : WOTN for me - it's that Sangiovese in the blend, although I didn't know when I tasted it. So graceful on the body, really lovely stuff.

Strange how bottles can vary. Where I praised my previous bottle for minerality and freshness, was this one showing a very modern, glossy and ripe side, verging on over the top. Strange. Or is it me?

Better than previous bottles. At peek now: harmonious, round, sexy! Dark fruit, espresso, chocolate, vanilla, leather. Long and silky finish accompanied by lovely sweetness. A pleasure!

Penultimate bottle from a 6 pack, last consumed about 2 yrs ago. This wine seems to have reached a peak in my opinion. The red and black fruits show a bit of stewed flavors, and there is mint and anise, as well as espresso notes as secondary flavors. Needs some air to come together, but than the mix of sangiovese and french varieties gives a good balance between tension and elegance. I would not choose it for a solo, but with the right food it performs good.

Consistent with previous note tho I did not pick out any licorice this time around: "Mulberry with reddish purple edge in color. Pungent nose of frutti di bosco, truffle and cocoa. On the palate: cherries, blueberries, cocoa, tuscan earth and a backnote of licorice. Sweet sandy tannins lead into a medium length finish of red fruit, sweet earth and an enjoyable pyrazine note. Tannins felt primarily on cheeks and gums."

A mix of Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese. Quite a harsh palate. There is dark cherry fruit indicating the dominance of the Sangiovese. There are hints of leather and spice. Huge unyielding structure of acidity and tannin - over done in my view as the fruit is not generous enough to cover the bones of the structure. Medium length, straightforward. Still young but not convinced this is ever going to resolve into a pleasant wine.

Bordeaux vs Bolgheri – Outside the 1st growths (67 Pall Mall) (67 Pall Mall) : Cabernet 65% Merlot 20% and Sangiovese 15% Quite intriguing on the nose - there is some coffee here but behind that sweet strawberry, red cherry, plum, perfumed talc and even a little “new pencil case”. Decanted 45 minutes from a bottle I had Coravin-ed a few weeks ago. Medium legs on the glass, dark ruby color. Cherries on the nose, but there is the slightest hint of vanilla too. The palate is complex - cherries, wild strawberries, good acidity that is getting more integrated. The ending is long and exudes notes of cocoa, iron, some Cedar wood, tomato leaves. Coravin pour, left 5 minutes in the glass. Nose not particular intense with some red berry notes. Round on the palate, full body, with plum and black currant notes on the mid-palate; the finish is long, with black tea, iron, oak, integrated tannins. {organically farmed} I'll admit to some bias here, as I've visited a few times, know well the founder's story and find the farming and vinification to be smart and well-judged. Med>Full body at this stage, and to be sure, pretty early days. Felt a touch tight. Drank over 3 hours. Needs at least 90 minutes to wake up. Some dark fruit on nose. Touch of tar, tobacco and perhaps anise. Strong acidity that coated my teeth and morphed into a tannic finish that dried my tongue. I think this wine needs at least 2 years and probably 3-5 at least.

Red fruits on the nose with some hints of forest floor, nice. On the palate, this is vibrant and energetic, with lively red fruit and good acidity. Finish is medium-short, but I found this to be drinking surprisingly well in its youth. It may very well get substantially better with age, but it is drinking pretty well now. Overall, a balanced and elegant wine. My first time trying Grattamacco and I'm impressed.

Bought a case of this wine approx. a year ago. Very light (pinot-like) and was on the verge of vinegar, was expecting much more from a super tuscan, but maybe this was improperly stored prior to purchase, but was a complete disappointment. Will try one more bottle and if its the same...it will be used for cooking.
