This wine is on autopilot. Its smooth, balanced, medium weight, notes of mature fruits and earth on the nose with a silky savory finish.

Starting to fade. Still balanced and enjoyable but drink on the closer side of "sooner or later...." Eric was right.

First off, I am generally not a fan of importers who creat special cuvees to sell into the American market. In this case, it's an Eric Solomon version. I mean, how authentic is it if I go to Spain, tell the dude what to blend because I promise to sell a lot of it, and then advertise it as an example of "spanish wine"? Obviously it helps if The Man Mr. P himself lavishes some serious praise via a high …

Enjoyed with lamb chops cooked by my Spanish brother-in-law -- a perfect pairing.

Nice bottle of wine with no off tastes/smells. Lasted 3 nights on counter. Tannins have completely melted and wine is smooth as silk.

Dark crimson read. Cinnamon and dark fruits on the nose (and for the first hour of breathing there was a disconcerting fecal note as well). Full, approaching fat mouth-feel. Notes of cola, blueberries, distant elements of tar and coffee - not strong, but noticeable. Very nice. It has definitely reached its apex, but no signs of going downhill yet.

Horrible sulfur smell of sewage. Really? It can't survive 8 years??

Lovely dark red. Stewed prunes fading to strawberries on the nose. Spicy black fruits laced with red fruits. Somewhat rustic, in a good way. This wine appears to be just starting to fade, which I don't believe was the case the last time I tried it. Quite pleasant.

The wine was very very nice with food. Let open up in a decanter for about an hour. Was a mellow wine with a good amount of acid that went well with food. Would not be a great wine to let stand on it's own, but for a 8 year old bottle that was under $20 to start it's is still drinking quite nice. I would drink this bottle soon, I can't see it lasting a whole lot longer

This wine actually had a a bitter middle. The nose was polite with out any distinguishing characteristics. YOU NEED TO LET THIS OPEN FOR A FEW HOURS. The bitterness started to subside after 3 hrs. I am planning on trying the remaining wine tonight. I would be curious what 3-5 more years would do to the odd mid-palate.

Overripe figs on the nose with perfect alcohol balance. Fat mouth feel Very ripe plum and very ripe cherry dominates throughout the finish. Quite pleasant.

Really smoothing out and coming together, but still better after the bottle's been on the counter for a couple of hours. A bit on the rustic side, with a light note banana-chip sweetness on the midpalate. Very enjoyable, and appears to be my last bottle. Given the air time required for this to open, I wouldn't hesitate holding for another year or two if I had more.

Nez d'anis, de bois et de feuille de tomate. En bouche, végétal, mais bel équilibre et également des notes de café noir.

Dark fruit, currant, and of all things a hint of ripe bananas and flowers on the nose. Go figure. Much the same on a medium-full palate, finishing in with a fairly robust display of fine tannins. The cedar from earlier tastings has faded into insignificance. Both this btl and the corked one had a fair amount of sediment, which might suggests standing this up for a couple of days before serving. Seems to be at or near peak.

I prefered the 2003 vintage to the 2002. The wine was spicy, dark and fleshy but lacked the force of the 2003. All in all, Solanera is still a best buy every year.

We drank this with Jambalaya on 12/23/07. It had sweet cherry, blackberry, currant, licorice, and musty forest floor on the nose. There were hints of the fruit and licorice on the palate, but everything was overpowered by very strong tannins…very astringent! I did not decant, but should have!!! The follow through was short to average (at best). I had a glass of this left, which I drank the following night…much better (The second night I scored it 88). It opened …

Once again, I enjoy this btl more than the "objective" rating would suggest. Pop/pour, the nose starts out a bit rough, but quickly blows off to a cedar, sweet leather character with a hint of tarry ginger. Medium bodied palate with the same cedar backdrop as before, but more complex fruit with a bit more elegant and long finish. Hat's off to Parker, I think the rating on this one (90) was pretty close to right. At $11, this is …
