Belle couleur dorée même si pas trop foncée. Nez éblouissant de tarte au citron confit, de miel, d’embruns marins, ça reste frais et plus expressif au fur et à mesure que le vin se réchauffe. En bouche l’acidité est bien présente même si on ressent une rondeur en finale. Saveurs de citron, de poivre blanc, c’est complexe mais difficile à décrire, mais chaque gorgée en appelle une autre, il faut de la maîtrise pour prendre son temps avec le vin. …

tasted alongside the '04 - more weight in this wine. initially however a bit non-descript. with time however this blossomed into a buttered cream lactic beauty. what a transformation over less than an hour. Raveneau needs decanting, lesson learned.

Raveneau's 2012 remains a restrained rendition of Montée de Tonnerre relying on its incredible mineral depth to excite. Lemon oil and white flower. Medium body.

Popped and poured. Beautiful subtle floral nose. The wine is medium bodied, impeccably balanced, detailed and elegant. White peach, stone fruit, remarkably fresh and still youthful showing a deft use of oak. This is drinking really well now.

The Heat is On (Los Olivos, CA) : A stellar bottle generously contributed to a tasting I was hosting. This has shed its baby fat, and while still showing a hedonistic, creamy side, also displayed a deft array of well-developed characteristics: flint, marzipan, crisp apple and pear, and some baking spice, all precise and in balance.

From Paris with Love, 2024 Summer Edition; 6/6/2024-6/8/2024 (Paris (Vantre, Epicure & La Tour D'Argent )) : Probably now at optimum if not past optimum ( assuming well cellared). Less of the flinty firm feel of youth and more on the evolved beauty time of its life. Soft kiss of a rich feel, soft truffle edge of a well aged Chablis. An 93 from us ( Andreas 92 / Nicole 94)

Two weeks in France; 4/12/2024-4/24/2024 : Off the list at La Rotonde, the wine bar of Les Crayeres. Thick and viscous as expected of Raveneau, but the creamy oak dominated too much at the moment. Needs more time.

Purchased at Malleval in Lyon for about 45 euros, though I see it's worth a lot more now. Drunk with Christmas turkey. My first Raveneau. Incredible mouthfeel. Not in the minerallly style I've had in the past, with a lovely mixture of apple, white fruit and acidity. I would have guessed Puligny, had I had it blind. Excellent.

Popped and poured. A lovely fruit forward Montee in this riper year. But impeccable balance as ever and lovely brightness on the finish. Maybe best in 3-5 years. And don’t serve too cold or you’ll miss the fabulous texture.

Not sure how or at what point in the evening this was opened, but it appeared in my glass at some point and I did not object! Lovely wine with the acidity and minerality of Chablis, but with the richness and fruit of Raveneau. This was still very fresh and not showing any signs of oxidation. Would have guessed younger if blinded. Maybe even worth decanting!

The nose wafts lemon curd, white tea, orange blossom, tangerine, apricot, and sea stone minerality. Medium bodied with lush, slightly sweet acid that delivers decent verve and a fair amount of minerality, but no twitch. The minerality is for real, but it battles with the opulence of the vintage that prevents true harmony. As others have noted, the vintage really dominates this wine. Une grosse claque, fabuleux dans un style qui conjugue maturité et tension à un niveau parfait. L'élevage est super discret, intégré, mais donne des touches de fumé. Raveneau's 2012 Montée de Tonnerre has never shown much evolution or aromatic complexity, rather relaying on an impressive density of minerality (par for the course with this cru) and fruit (rather unlike MdT) with a profile of lemon oil, jasmine, and crushed stone. Medium light in body, finishing with sharp citrus tones. Always a pleasure but not my favorite Raveneau MdT vintage.

2019 Visit to North Canterbury, NZ : Mark served this excellent Chablis, drinking in the zone, of Grand Cru quality, in my view. Deep gold colour.
