At its peak. Drink upon opening. The second glass is the best with dry roses, sour cherry and balsamic. Elegant but with structure. High acidity. Start to decline on 3rd glass. Drink now!

Lovely sangiovese. Dry dark cherry, underripe blackberry, dried orange rind, dried herbs, pepper, rose petals. Acidity that cuts through food but not over the top. Medium bodied, not one to impress in terms of concentration or fruit. But it’s lithe and layered. Feels like old school done well. Not quite in the ideal drinking window (it went quiet on me 30-90 mins from opening), probably 10 years away, but in no way obscene to drink this now.

Repeat wine, this one seemed to have more of an unripe, green fruit character.

Defective? Pale Garnet. Baked fruit and leather nose, same on palate. Thin and charmless. Very disappointing given recent reviews and price point. Hopefully this is just an off bottle.

Decanted for ~30mins. Black Cherry, blackberry nose, subtle earth. Pure, somewhat youthful fruit up front, that masks a good bit of tannin that shows with aeration in the mouth. Definitely well made and solid fruit, but lacks a bit of complexity at this stage. Will give my other bottle 3-5 years

Popped and poured. Light ruby color with a touch of bricking towards the rim. Nose of ripe red cherry, a touch of brown sugar, cherry cough drop and a slight floral or herbal note coming through. Similar flavors on the palate with ripe and slightly sweet red fruit and some sweet baking spice notes on the back end. Structurally this wine felt a little soft on the palate. It's a pleasant, lighter styled brunello that I enjoyed but just not …

Not decanted, the second wine of the evening. A good Brunello, even if it can't compete with the best. Already accessible, but I would probably wait another 5 years. 89 pts. at the moment.

Wow. The last bottle I had was corked. This one was really nice. Red berry fruit and dried berry fruit. Some savoury, dried herbs, with a touch of tobacco and leather. Nice complexity and depth. A bit watery through the mid palate, but the finish is medium length and smooth. Still good acidity. Dusty and vague tannins in the background. I think this wine has peaked and is beginning the downside. Lucky that this is my last bottle.

Minor deposit. Typical Brunello colour. Medium flavours and weight. A lesser vintage? Suggestions were that it will drink young, but this is austere and undeveloped. Maybe it will never balance. Leave it a decade and see. 7 hours later, it showed emerging Brunello fruit and better balance. I expect a decade or 2 will treat it well.

PnP. Nicely developed, well integrated BdM. CT drinking window is way too conservative. Don’t see it improving a lot, but should hold for another 3-4 years. Wouldnt hesitate to drink now.

A lot of tertiary notes, wet leaves, mushroom, savoury. It is leaning towards new style. The acidity and tannin is still holding the wine but I feel it’s drinking at its peak now.

The 2017 Fuligni is an excellent bottle of wine. I slow oxed and then I poured. One day one there was a whole lot happening. It had Tobacco, Tar, Black Olive, and whole lot of tannin. I closed up my bottle and I let it sit for two days. This made a world of difference. The wine had mellowed significantly and thus became much easier to drink. My advice would be to hold another five years. Is it worth $69? …

A textbook example of refinement and texture. On the palate, this is supple and elegant, yet bright and fresh with a persistent lift that carries through the finish. Deeply layered, with notes of red cherry, wild berry and a touch of earth. There’s no trace of overripeness—just purity and balance throughout. In 2018, no Riserva was produced, so all of that wine was instead blended into the normale, enhancing its depth and complexity.

WWP at Wimborne. Too many wines to taste. Short notes only. True to terroir traditional Brunello. Classic sour red cherries, married with Tuscan earth, dried Oregano herbs, some interesting cedar notes though I thought this sees only neutral Slavonian oak. Easy drink even at 14.5% alcohol.

A previous bottle of this only a few years ago was bitter to the point of unpleasantness and very tight indeed. Would it unwind? Well, yes. Not hugely complex (as a 17 year old wine where are those tertiary characteristics?) but it’s beautifully balanced. Smooth, soft tannins. Muted nose but lots on the palate! Sweet red and stone fruit with good acidity and a hint of refreshing bitterness on the finish. Black tea. Dark chocolate. Some spice, dark cherry and …

93+ Leather, iodine, red cherry, bramble, spice on the nose. In the mouth, these notes persist, with leather, juicy red cherries, bramble, and spice persisting yet with the addition of floral notes and the discreet tannins and medium acidity. Sharpness on the midpalate and finish reminds us that this needs a decant and is very young indeed. This finishes long and slightly sweet, not bone dry with a cool fruit sensation and some hot crushed stone. It gains some weight …

Well-made strong bdm. Cherry, plum, orange pill and spice nose with juicy and fruity taste. Opened 2 hrs before tasting, and that was not enough. Though it’s solid all along, it’s so closed that I could bearly sense anything developed for almost 5 hrs, other than juicy fruit character. After that, it showed nice nose of black tea, balsamic, watermelon, exotic spices and stabilized palate. I just needed to be patient with this.

Of ‘17 and not overtly…overtly. A full entry of stunning fruit, with a full middle and a bright, long finish. Not shy on fruit, yet has finesse. Red cherries, red clay, freesia, wild plums, cherry schnapps and teak. There’s grip and cut, but this is still ‘17 and quite ready. Polished tannins. There’s a primary way, but that’s okay. It’s very engaging. Drink now - 2036.

It is a mingling effect (Mingles , Seoul) : By the glass as part of their signature pairing at Mingles , Seoul. Dry smooth and elegant, red fruité, softest kiss of modernity here and works well. Polished fruit, well approachable even this young and with a harmony from palate to nose. Good 91 and with a good decade in it.

Wild cherry, pomegranate, shortbread, and baker’s chocolate fondant. One of the better Brunellos I’ve had in recent memory. This was a very pleasant surprise at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. There might be a bit of potential built into my score. DQ and I agreed on most wines at this event, but this one was more polarizing.

WS Grand Tour (Walkaround Tasting) (New Orleans) : This got a great score from WS but this was not a fave for me. I’ll refrain from scoring because clearly there is a style of BdM that is more subtle and elegant and I am just not versant in what that should look like. My notes say pale color, roses and cherries.

In a weaker year for Brunello’s in general Fuligni has still managed to make an excellent Brunello. A very approachable and upfront nose tells you this will have a shorter life span than usual. Trademark nose with dried cherries, Italian species, cedar, with a slight lanolin note. Follows the nose with dried cherry, red fruit, cedar, dried herbs, and tobacco leaf. Pretty opulent with a long finish that lingers. Great acidity. Really tasty and I would advise drinking all your …
