Robert Renzoni Old Vine Zinfandel

A bottle from first bottling. A better wine on days 2 and 3 than on day one, 84 on day 1 and 86 on day 3. This was over-oaked and a bit over done but with some air came about. Almost a port with the alcohol level (!!!). Brambly and stewed fruit, tea, oak, vanilla. Natural cork; 15.2% abv.

Very disappointing. I have heard that Zins with some age can do this and there isn't much else left aside from some tired fruit, VA, and oak. I think there may have been 2 bottlings of this, as i remember the winery ran out then after a few months seemingly came across more. I have some hope for my last bottle.....

1.5 hour decant and this is still not showing as well as it could. Noticeable oak that is kinda off-putting. Thiss needs at least another hour or two decant to show it's true colors. Rich fruit, but overshadowed by vanilla and oaky tannins. A it of earthiness and that zin spice coming through. Decant longer or give another couple years.
