Edgefield Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Alder Ridge

We received this wine as a gift and figured we would give it the benefit of the doubt. Tried over 2 days. Fruit forward, no structure, no finish, thin for a cab. Used for cooking (it does make a decent pasta sauce).

Opened March 5, 2012 to pair with Shepherd's Pie: Opaque burgundy color with a hint of brown at the edge suggesting more age than it has enjoyed. The nose of blackberry and leather gave way to mild tobbaco and grilling spices. Fruit-forward start with promminent acid and a noticeable lack of tannic structure fell short of expectation. After opening up a bit the tannins were slightly noticeable, but not enough to balance the wine.
