Ballentine Vineyards Zinfandel Old Vines

Past its prime. Dumped it.

Deep reddish color, rich raspberry, black cherry, and apple flavors, with spicy aromas. Some tannins and a little pepper on the finish. Full-bodied. Getting better as it ages. So I am raising my score.

The '02 is past its time. I threw away a couple of bottles - if you have one, you might want to open it and see.

Lovely nose of wild flowers or something like that. Bright red fruit. This is at its peak. Very very nice, balanced and smooth.

it was fair, nothing special

This was a very, very pleasant surprise. Far and way, the best wine that we had at Brandy's birthday tonight. This bottle has been sitting in our cellar for the past five or so years with not much notice. The first thing you will notice is the mouth feel. It feels like velvet. A bit of vanilla and a hint of spice.

Dark purple in the glass with nice legs. On the nose I got a ton of red berry flavors, some cedar, and a hint of vanilla and spice. This wine was medium bodied, and had a very nice mouth feel. The berry flavors continued on the palate, and throughout the long, dry finish. I'm not sure about the alcohol content of this wine, but I got virtually no heat on the palate or finish (just a tiny bit on the …

Medium bodied Zin, nice fruit, well balanced, well rounded, a bit lack of depth. No signs of age

We had tried this before and didn't like it too well. However, this bottle was a totally different story. Very nice fruit and depth with a smooth finish. Will buy again based on this bottle.

Quite tannic and tight; not much fruit.

The wine first gives the impressions of raspberry, black cherry, blueberry and red apple. There are mild notes of red delicious apple and cranberry along with spicy floral aromas of black pepper. The body of the wine is supple and silky with a full bodied structure. This Zinfandel has a jammy intensity on the palate with flavors of cherries and cranberries, but also showing a complex nature revealing those rose petals, spices, and some sweet vanilla.
