amazing what time is doing for this wine… it’s really evolving beautifully…. be sure to drink on the cool side with a long decant at cellar temps… very different wine right out of the bottle at room temp (ie, nothing special)… however, when i decanted at 54 degrees starting when I woke up, for 8 hours … by dinner this was a rock star

Nice bottle with a rib roast. Needed plenty of air and was certainly in a nice spot but not particularly mature or developed. Everything was balanced, including the oak that I noted with the prior bottle. Should have a long life ahead of it.

What a difference a few years makes. This is really singing. All the same characteristics as I identified in the bottle I drank on 11/20/21 but much better balanced and elegant. The elements are now in harmony. The tannins have softened and are nicely integrated. This was indeed a lovely representation of To Kalon.

In a nice early drinking window. There's obvious oak, but it's nicely integrated - most evidenced by vanilla. There's plenty of density and fruit, but what I really liked about this wine was that it was well balanced with all the other complexities I'd hope to get from a To Kalon Cab. This one delivered, and continued to evolve while the bottle was open.

Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL) : Pretty good for a modern Napa cab. Sweet black fruit with a hint of vanilla and black cherry, but without the overbearing oak on the nose or on the palate. Surprisingly light-footed on the palate, this drinks quite nicely and I might even drink a glass of this with the right type of dinner.

I knew I was likely drinking this too early but did so anyway to accompany a rich, prime rib, knowing the tannins would be tamed by the beef. This opened with a lot of fruit on the palate. Raspberry, blackberry, cassis, plum were predominant at this point. Secondary flavors of oak, mocha and coffee added some balance but the tannins are still very tight. Many thanks to our friends who brought this to dinner on Friday night. It's a nice version of Napa Valley floor wine (as you might expect with the Beckstoffer To Kalon name). Very fruity and bigger which worked really well with a short rib and lamb main where the wine was very ready to stand up to the bigger flavors. Bottle went quickly so it was well enjoyed.

Very similar to my 2020 experience with this wine. Dark cherry, plum, mocha and tobacco on the palate with a dusty, earthy finish. Full bodied with nicely integrated tannins. Elegant and layered. This will continue to age for several more years but it is awfully good now.

cassis, blackberries, blackcurrant, coffee, toasted oak, loam, red plum, cherries and peppercorn I feel like the provenance BTK is always softer than the other producers and more restrained. Not a bad thing though, different expression of gentleness.

Typical To-Kalon Cabernet. Plum, cassis and a little dark cherry up front with mocha, a touch of leather and classic dust on the back palate. This will still improve with some additional age but tannins are smooth and somewhat integrated. Opened this about 45 minutes before serving which turned out to be enough.

Drank too young, but felt compelled to try a bottle, especially at the CM price. Have enough I can sample again next year and go from there. Still quite primary with fruit and little development.

I've been fortunate to have this wine from time to time. I've tried the 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013. It has more depth and complexity than the 2011 (2011 is drinking very well right now). 2009 was disappointing. Provenance no longer has To-Kalon grapes so if you have the opportunity encourage you to taste this wine. The 2013 has harmony and grace and is nicely balanced. This is one of the great Napa Valley vineyards.

Medium bodied, almost lithe, with high toned berry notes and medium finish. Balance is the key hear, and an hour and a half in the glass was not enough for it to show all it's got. Open for an hour...then watch it develop.

This is a great wine. Not a muscular fruit bomb but sophisticated and elegant. The finish was off the charts. Curious to see how this ages given that it is drinking so well.

Last bottle in a case we've consumed since 2011 and drank over two nights. Likely entering a peak window over the next few years. This style is slightly too sweet and extracted for my taste. However, I thought it was much better on the second night. A nice savory steak emerged to complement the sweet dark fruit, and the finish mellowed out.

Classic Napa floor cab drinking in a great window right now. Dark crimson color with a violet tint. Nose brings soft whiffs of chocolate mocha, dried cherries, black currant, herbs, and raspberries. The palate is medium-full, round, slightly supple, and nicely concentrated in the elegant Oakville style, bringing layers of blackberries, cassis, more black currant, hints of blueberries, chocolate cherries, and lingering sweet tobacco and cherry pie notes. Popped and poured and gave 30 minutes in the glass for some air time. Solid fruit, with cherry, vanilla and a little spice. slightly tannic initially, but smoothed out over the next hour. Not up to the typical To-Kalon standard, but a solid wine. Much more reasonable than most Beckstoffer cabs, but priced about right for the money.
