This bottle has the character of an aged Bordeaux, but the appearance of a wine ⅓ its age. Just a beautiful claret.

This opens again as an excellent 2005 Graves with purity and brightness of fruit to the fore.On the nose there is blackcurrant, garnet plums, tobacco, cedar and charcoal embers leading into a palate of richly textured fruit well balanced by savoury elements of earth, tobacco and cedar with a touch of dark chocolate. There is excellent grip and persistence here with a touch a well judged modernity.

50x Bordeaux 2005 : All wines tasted blind, not decanted. Left bank is quite good, right bank is a disaster waiting to happen. A few observations: 1) Left bank 2005s are good to very good, with ripe yet fresh fruit, real substance, and the classic structure that defines the vintage. 2) Most are just entering their first drinking window but remain youthful, with no tertiary development yet. 3) Top wines were Lafite (98), Mouton (97), Margaux (96), and Branon (95). …

Bordeaux 2005 horizontal; 6/1/2025-6/2/2025 (Fribourg) : Incredibly layered with endless aromatic detail, even if rather humble in terms of intensity. Red cherry fruit core coupled with blue and darker complements. Dense and polished appearance. Fine mineral and herbal layers on a thin, leathery foundation. Tense mid-palate with vibrant acids, all in harmony with the still quite grainy tannins. Good length and presence. As only point of contention I would note that that the acidity leans towards tart in the finish. …

Three hours in the decanter, as my prior experience has shown that this wine needs a long decant. Not surprisingly, at 20 years this is such a silky wine. Blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, blood orange, baking spice, herbs, and garrigue--and vanilla bean on the long finish (45-60 sec.). Medium, fine tannins and medium acidity.

En Primeur campaign for the 2024 vintage Day one (Ulysse Cazabonne) : Double magnum. Juicy earthy and savoury with black hued fruits, plentiful tannins are drying and grippy, slightly chalky, okay.

I cant believe there is this much life in the bottle. Blueberry notes and tannins still noticeable. What a treat for my sons birth year wine.

In the zone and drinking so, so well. I think Malartic hits the luscious style just right. Black cherry fruit, a kiss of vanilla, crisp acidity, and a smooth, moderately long finish. Great wine for the money, and great wine period.

Decanted two hours. Dark garnet with some bricking at rim. Cassis on the bouquet with a hint of cigar. Palate shows cassis and cedar notes, completely integrated tannins, medium body and a long final. Very balanced and drinking superbly just now. This is a great value Bordeaux from an excellent year.

This is a beautifully crafted Graves from 2005 that overachieves in this vintage. There is great freshness and purity on the nose of blackcurrant, garnet plums, tobacco, cedar and charcoal embers. The palate has nicely rich fruit well balanced by savoury elements of earth, tobacco and cedar with a touch of dark chocolate. There is excellent grip and persistence here and a sense that this is classic Graves perfectly reflecting the year.

Double decanted at noon and drunk at dinner the same day. Did the job with a nice barbecue grilled piece of beef, but is still showing some restraint and not delivering the full package. The mouth is soft, tanins are well integrated and refined, there is a nice balance with a good acidity that makes it refreshing. So, clearly a well made 2005, which is showing no sign of over-extraction. I'm less excited by the aromatic complexity, it is still …

This wine is drinking beautifully with great freshness and purity and a nose of blackcurrant, garnet plums, tobacco, cedar and charcoal embers. The palate has nicely rich fruit well balanced by savoury elements of earth, tobacco and cedar with a touch of dark chocolate. There is excellent grip and persistence which sums up the overall purity of impact in this wine. Quite a delicious Graves from this great year.

Unfortunately, rather closed in nose and palate. Good color, little browning. Muted aromatics, but not musty.. vinous in nature. Darker fruits: Black cherry, blackberry, plum. Subtle baking spices and tertiary notes of old mahogany, leather. But not expressive. Mild tannins, more round and in the background. Decanted and let air for an hour, but never really opened up. Maybe another couple years? Darn.

91 pts

55F since acquisition on release. Youthful saturated opaque redblack pigment - nose of bright black cherry jumped from corkpull - graphite, anise and fresh flowers - pushing prominent intraoral perfume- join in on palate. Velvety rich tannins and the right acid balance to keep everything dancing on palate. This wine is showing very well and would seem to be on a long plateau.

Popped and poured. Dark garnet. Lifted bouquet showing strong cassis and floral aromatics. Excellent body and mouthfeel. Cassis, raspberry and cigar leaf fill the mid-palate, with fine tannins adding a note of complexity to the medium final. This is in a great place and offers superb value. Looking forward to working through my remaining stash over the next 8 years or so.
