Lucien Le Moine Mazis-Chambertin

Fan of Chatters and Burgundy Al, so really wasn’t sure what to expect. Wow. Way more than I expected at this young age. Really interested to revisit in some time, but doubt I’ll hold out. Really impressed and surprised by how open it was.

An evening with George (Bistro Cocotte, Haberfield) : Savoury, meaty, polished oak over non-delineated black fruits. The oaky notes grow to dominate the nose over time. On the palate there is a slightly oxidative note showing a little baked caramel, muted fruit is a little stripped, soft tannic burr, alcohol is a little mismanaged. Not for me.

Lucien Le Moine Cellar Visit and Tasting with Mounir Saouma (Beaune) : Tasted blind at the cuverie. Black fruit aromas with roasted sausage aromas. Black cherry and plum again on palate with very good density and a bright, balanced finish showing sneaky power. Very good already with upside. So much more interesting and accessible vs the Clos St Denis just tasted.
