No good old wine, just good bottles. Buy magnums if you plan on getting old with your wine.

So interesting to have the luxury to open another bottle of the same wine that wasn't showing as good as I remember and thought it should. So I opened another bottle from the same case as the one that I loved, and sure enough, it was in form. This is where storage is king....in your 80's...just like people. A beautiful bottle of Bordeaux if properly stored, regardless of the moldy label. See previous notes...Drink!

Excellent mature claret. Missing the depth from other vintages but this is holding up well and showed true St. Estephe structure.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : From Magnum. Brambles, earth, sweet spice, leather, forest floor, slightly jubey notes. Wetly juicy, lean on the palate, grainy drying mid palate tannic grip with the fruit and other favours playing second fiddle. Drink up based on this tasting, perhaps this bottle is a little forward though?

An Exorcist styled head twister! We had no expectation as we were cooking up tapas and enjoying the sunset in the kitchen. Once this was opened, and once we stuck our schnozzles into the nozzle, we were like WOW! This had that old school Pauillac, Pichon Lalande, Mouton, nose and we were just in shock and looked at the bottle again and again. So, we have that beautiful cedar laden, earthen, raw mushroom and truffle scented wine dancing in the …

Beau 1996 assez typique avec ce coté '' vert '' plutôt dominant et son fruit rouge frais. J'aime le style mais ce n'est pas pour tout le monde. Bon Bordeaux à point

Was extremely classic St Estephe on the open (leafy and herbaceous with a touch of flint) but the palate was rather attenuated. Then with air the body filled out and the finish became quite cool but intense, if that makes sense. Punching above its weight for sure.

As others have noted, this is youthful….very little bricking, no “stink”, started off muted and compact, but opened up to delicate but concentrated black cherry and herbs. Smooth and enjoyable.

Beef, Cocktails and Wine (Casa Esperanza) : This was drinking exceptionally well. A lovely mature Bordeaux caught right at its apogee. I loved the nose here, with savoury notes of earth and meat and leather alongside cooked cassis, smoked cedar and tobacco spice. Lovely. The palate was absolutely delightful too, with its rich, deep layers of cassis, earth, meat and spice, all beautifully integrated with velvety tannins and deeply integrated acidity that led the wine into a lovely long, full …

Lunch at Hua Yu Wee, courtesy of Chef D. Pop and poured. Drank over 2+ hours. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear (sediments towards end of bottle only), deep intensity, ruby colour. Thin legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of menthol, dirty leather, some musky funk, black fruits. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), resolved smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of leather, menthol, grilled bell pepper, blackberries, blackcurrant, cassis, cigar/tobacco. …

Opened the bottle two hours prior to dinner. After the two hour slow ox I decanted the bottle using a vinturi as I realized a little of the cork had broken off and at 24 years I assumed there would be quite a bit of sediment (I was wrong about that). The nose was berries and leather. The palate was dark berries, leather, tobacco, three bark and earth. The finish was moderate to long. A very enjoyable bottle of wine. …

Beautiful light garnet color with a brick rim. Meaty nose that mixes black current fruit with a touch of wild. Fullish, yet not heavy Bordeaux, that has mature, sweet fruit and autumn leaves on the palate. This is excellent at age 24 though lacks a bit of umph on the finish. Nice, classic Saint Estephe. (89)

Fast kein Rauch, sondern edles Zedernholz u. etwas Tabak. Der Hit! Heute zu Wiener-Schnitzel und frittieren Zucchini-Blüten genossen.

Leather, meaty, wet forest, slight vanilla, spices, toast. Medium+ tannin and acidity. Able to cellar easily 10 years. A very good vintage. 1-2 hours of decanting should soften the wine. I had 18 bottles of this and should be able to try and error on the right decanting.

While definitely a “drink now,” this wine has held up well. Color is brick red and fruit has given way to smoke, tobacco, and mushroom. Surprisingly, still a lasting finish.

Blind, deep red color hints to something serious, yet on the nose, notes of green pepper, tomato vines, forest under growth, wet cardboard, mushrooms ending on a tannic yet short finish. Past it’s prime with zero fruit left. Drink yesterday.

Chateau Phelan Segur is one of my favourite wine. The price is relatively cheap if compare to the rest. It's a wine that is able to be kept in the cellar and aged. It shows cooked fruits, leather, smoke and medium+ tannin and firm acidity. Comparing 1986 and 1982, I will go for 1982 without hesitation.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA) : Dark core with brown garnet rim; high toned, peaty, spicy, lots of pyrazines, soy, leather, sweet, currants, clay, cloves, Band-Aid, iodine; tobacco, leather, reminiscent of older South African, dense, aged, drinking well now, lower acid, mushroom; was in South Africa but age didn't make sense, older Bordeaux from an outlying village- called '88 Phelan.

Tasted simply awful upon opening, with an odd baking spice thing going on. After an hour of air, the wine started to get right-side up, and eventually bloomed into a nice, older claret. Good savory/umami notes, with the appropriate tertiary flavors eventually coming through. Not a stunner, but a nice wine nonetheless.

The bottle was in very good condition. The filling level was into the neck. The cork was completely soaked, with some seepage under the capsule. The wine was medium ruby in colour, with garnet edges. It offered red and dark fruit, black currant, dark cherry, tobacco, intense spice and cinnamon on the nose and palate, with good acidity, smooth, mostly resolved tannin, a good, smooth mouthfeel and very good length. The medium-bodied wine had good substance on the attack, but …
