Even better on night two - the longevity of these is astonishing (although this was out of well-stored magnum). Dark fruit, classic dried leather and herbal notes, good acidity.

Glowing red-orange with a hint of brown . Delicious purple fruit nose that I could smell forever. Mushy aged browned fruit melange with sweetened marmite in the finish. Enjoyable even if it’s past its prime.

This is getting old, but the cork was just fantastic: only small taint of red at the end, the rest was flexible and clean after 25 years!. Brown amber color, clearly an old wine. Muted nose at first, then there are tones of tobacco, warm wood, mushrooms and a faint hint of prunes. Medium bodied attack, expands on the mid palate where the tobacco tones are fortified. Lots of tannins, but they are quite rounded, and there is a fine …

3 hour decant- moderate up front fruit with a smidge of heat. Decent balance. Below average finish. This is enjoyable but unworthy of contemplation. Certainly in its prime and will hold for about 3-5 years here.

Expressive nose of roses, clay, tar, spices, great typicity. Tannins just about right, present but not hard or drying. A grand, mature Barolo.

Decanted for DevCom in Berkeley, from magnum. A classic Barolo, plenty of tar and fruit and violets, still tannins in the finish. Still in excellent shape and drinking well, consistent with previous notes. My WOTN.

750ml; Decanted and followed over a couple hours; Color is translucent red with significant orange bricking (looks aged but not dead orange) Nose: Upon opening - tar and leather immediately jump out with aromatic flowers, changing over time to sweeter flowers, cherries, rhubarb, herbs, with tar and leather in the background Palate: sweet cherry-rasberry, very herbal, incredibly smooth, a bit of acidity, a good bit of tartness, very slight, small tannins still persist in the background. Summary: I have had …

The first night this wine to me was flawed, we thought of using it for cooking but we kept it in the decanter. 24 hours later the wine completely changed, the aromas opened up, the color brightened; on the palate acidity still remained and young fruit began to appear. What a difference 24 hours made. Lesson learned, never throw away a wine, it could surprise you the next day.

Tar, roses, strawberry, licorice, and lumber. A bit muddy. Almost fully integrated tannins. Too much tannins really. If the red fruit holds up while the tannins soften more, this would be an outstanding wine. If I had another bottle of this, I wouldn't drink now; I would give it another few years.

Nothing special here. Possibly a year or so past it's drinking window.

Last tasted two years ago. It now has the color of a mature wine - a brownish-red, with bricking; a browning rim. Cherry, leather, sous bois, black pepper, hints of road tar, cedar. Excellent balance. At its apogee now and may even be declining from the peak of its maturity plateau. Drink up soon. As last time, a good pairing with Italian meat sauce (with Italian sausage) and pasta. Again, a better food wine. 24 hours later: still drinking quite …

From a magnum. Decanted and enjoyed with friends over 3 hours with pate, duck, truffle cheese and tomatoes. Golden pale red. Smooth and medium bodied with mature fruit, oak, spice and acid. Fine tannins were well integrated. A beautiful Barolo in its prime!

Comes across tighter and more youthful than the last bottle I'd enjoyed a few months back. This needs a few hours in the decanter to show well, but it's worth the wait. Layers of red fruit, tar, dried herbs and flowers, and a slightly bitter anise-like note on the back end, all conveyed on a medium weight frame that's carried by bright acids.

Some surprising bricking, and a bit cloudy/sediment. Quite tight initially, and maintained its tannic edge over several hours. Red fruit, tar, cedar, floral; bit of green walnut. Elegant palate, bit drying on the medium finish. By this bottle, I would hold, but there has been a lot of bottle variation.

From magnum, decanted for 2h at 1862. This masculine Barolo takes a few moments to blossom in the glass, just amazing leathery red fruit, and some secondary flavors on the nose. Strawberry cassis and oak, with great acidity and tannins that still make their presence known. Seems like this bottle could have lasted another 5 years or more. Definitely a wow.

Very light, graceful wine that is beginning to show some tertiary character. Fairly fine tannin, with medium-plus acid. This was so very different from my previous bottle (which struck me as denser and more tannic) but quite enjoyable.

Beautifully full, tarry, sweet, black cherry fruit on the nose and palate that is joined by some cigar/ tobacco notes on the finish. Very graceful, weightless on the palate. Very good to Excellent – Drink Now
