Emrich-Schonleber, Monzinger Halenberg Riesling GG, Nahe

Stopped by my favorite Asian spot in the city for a solo date with a bottle of Emrich-schönleber Halenberg GG 2022. Solo dates can be the best sometimes. No awkard conversations, no sharing of food. Just peace & quiet, some reading, & some time to reflect. Some petrol & struck match were present when I first opened the bottle, but that faded a bit with air. Wine is pale straw in color. On the nose wine shows petrol, mint, cream, florals. On the palate wine has high acid, light to medium body, long finish. On the palate wine is sharp, wine is linear with citrus fruit, saline, strong mineral note. Austere, needs time to mellow

Entering its silent phase now: primary aromas are almost gone, the new ones not yet in place. Therefor not rated. Wait another 3 years.

Extremely pleasant and perhaps even more so on day two after it had a chance to fan out. I favored the 21 of this slightly for its concentration and piercing aromatics, but this has petrol, light honey, and unripe mango. It’s so refreshing, deeply elegant and bright at this stage.
