This wine continues to improve and feels more connected than past bottles. More delicate in style, yet not boring with some complex flavors showing through. Medium body and finish.

Earthy aromas and flavors of red cherry with some floral aspects. Medium body with lifting acidity. Long dry finish. Great food wine. Drinking great now or over the next few years.

Not bad. Not good either but passable. vaguely reflects upon BdM but doesn't have the depth, balance, or length. This was a gift and I suspect pretty cheap, so perhaps it is decent for the price. Certainly not a wine to seek out.

It seems like this wine is coming back into a real enjoyable spot. Decanted 1 1/2 hrs and continued to improve until gone at the end of the night. Beginning to take on a brick red hue and has a nose of rhubarb, cranberry, and cedar. Nice flavors of cherry, dried cranberry and cedar. There are some warm spice notes with hints of dried herbs or sage. The finish is long and leaves coats the mouth with a drying tannin …

Decanted 2 hrs Nice brick color and medium bodied. Cherry and vanilla with a little sandlewood. Medium finish with hints of spice. Still seems a little tight but not sure what else it has to give.

The wine looks Brick colored. It tastes like Vanilla, and Black Pepper. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Silky texture and finishes Long. So far is the best Italian wine i had. The tannins were very soft and elegant and fited perfectly my bisteca fiorentina

A nice sangiovese to begin the Christmas feasting for the day.

First night it showed some off odors, perhaps corked / brett, even though underlying fruit was good. Second night much of the off odors had subsided leaving a decent if less interesting wine. QPR is questionable.

Garnet core. Redolent nose of cherries, plums, earth, vanilla, and sandalwood. Tart, sour cherry palate, stiff spine, strident acidity, and a ferrous character that lingers on the finish. Good potential but needs time. Decant.

drinks like a Rosso di Montalcino once it opens up, takes quite a while to relax. Strinkingly harsh at first but seemed like the deal of the century as I polished off the bottle solo 3hrs later. Def a good buy for $16 @ TJ's.

Comparing this wine to a more well known Brunello is one thing; comparing it to other reds — particularly other Sangioveses — is another. In short, the Lontano is a great value. It certainly compares well to Rossos di Montalcino in its price range and blows away most California Sangioveses, which, regrettably, have yet to achieve what can be accomplished in Tuscany. Nitpick all you like, this wine is a great value.

Light color, fruit-earth-smoke nose, not much punch with the aftertaste. Good, smooth, medium-bodied red.

$17 from Trader Joe's. Never had a cheapo BdM before; not sure what I was expecting, but this bottle exhibited some traits that were dead-on Brunello and others that definitely weren't. Opened 30 minutes before first tasting, and in classic Brunello style, the wine was still undrinkably tight, started to wake up at about the 2-hour mark. Beautiful, distinctive color: a deep, shimmering, rusty red, too young for any bricking. The nose and the taste were distinctively Tuscan, but didn't …
