Drank at the Valade & Transadine Wine Fair in Paris (biggest foreign importer in France). I did prefer it on the same price tag this one vs the Calvert, it was fresher and fruit more red than overripe black. It has a little more vendange entière as well.

Pinot Noir Bannockburn 2022 95/100 Lobenberg: Eine volle Farbe und eine beachtliche Geschmackstiefe durch eine mittellange Mazeration auf der Schale. Dann für 11 Monate in französischen Eichenfässern von Burgundischen Küfern gereift und ganz im Sinne der nicht-eingreifen-Philosophie ist der Bannockburn dann auch weder geschönt noch filtriert. In der Nase habe ich Kirsche, aber vor allem Pflaume, dann eine Zimt-Kräuter-Note und dazu Lavendel, leicht waldig moosig. A coravin sample. Straight out of the bottle. Wild strawberry or sweet strawberry aromas hits you. Great fruit and very good structure but nothing pokes out on the finish, perhaps apart from the 14% ABV. Will save the next bottle for 5+ years and see.

Fabulous wine. Intensity, structure, world-class varietal expression. Just a baby, but the vibrancy, ripeness, and balance of this wine absolutely make it a delight to drink now. There is certainly some generous tannin here, but it did not shout out as much as 10 months ago. This is improving and will continue to do so. A great vintage for Felton Road 93+

Tasting at Felton Road : The non-single vineyard bottling. Beautiful scarlet ruby. Fresh, nostril-filling nose of piquant red raspberry, stone, damp cellar, iodine. Layers of sharp but accessible red and black raspberry fruit, brier, fine soil, and hints of iron on the assured palate. Pliant tannin and crisp acidity. Long finish of pure red berry and underlying stony earth. A winner.

Tasting at Felton Road : Darker hue compared to the Bannockburn bottling. Nose of savory dark plum and cherry cut with damp earth and light florals. Layers of structured dark berry and a bit of meatiness on the brooding palate. Acidity a touch less pronounced and tannin more obvious than the Bannockburn. Moderately long finish of dark fruit and sinewy grip. Probably too early to evaluate, this wine may well blossom with extended aging.

2023 looks to be a vg year for FR. The Bannockburn, a blend of the vineyards, imo benefits from the blend. Tasted alongside Cornish Point, MacMuir and Block 3. Spicy, tight, carries the 2023 aromatic lift. Should age well.

A rare chance to try a benchmark wine before release, and unsurprisingly, the 2023 Felton Road Pinot is a winner! Obviously bright and youthful, but the structure of the wine is all class, emphasising fruit tannins, with a classic “house style” balance between generous fruit and expertly-judged oak. The 2023 strikes me as more tannic than the 2022 vintage, with a savoury note that suggests this will age beautifully. Intense and thick, but also with the classic FR lightness. Red …
