Ferraton Pere & Fils, Cornas, Les Eygats

Thirty minute decant. Very very deep ruby magenta color. Blackberry, strawberry/rhubarb pie, black pepper, burnt ends, and subtle baked pear. Smooth, dry palate, with slightly effervescent acidity. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish. This is more acid driven. It’s got a Northern Rhone sensibility. Good balance of fruity and savory notes. Paired very nicely with my pork shank at Meritage in St. Paul, MN.

Quite a modern style of cornas, dense on the nose. Fine Tannins, spice and a hint of vanilla, still excellent tertiary fruit, blackberry & blueberry. drink up remaining bottles 12m.

Limited notes as I was merry when I drank it. Great clarity, clear as glass. Red fruit and smoke. Delicious

Juicy sweet blackcurrant overlays a finely structure mineral backnote, a combination that keeps returning in waves. Maybe a little straightforward mid-palate; still highly enjoyable. Drinking now but would like to see how the fruit develops goes after 5 years. Recommended

100% Syrah aus dem Süden der Nord-Rhône, Granitboden. In der Nase dicht und üppig, Brombeere, Blaubeere, Syrah-Würze, feine Bourbon-Vanille, etwas Anis, letzte Röstaromen vom Holz. Am Gaumen ähnlich dicht, gute Struktur und Balance mit tragender Säure, vielschichtiger blauer und roter Frucht, eher südlicher, kräuteriger Würze, ganz dezenten mineralischen Anklängen und feinem Tannin im Abgang. Ich denke mal alles was man von einem Cornas erwarten darf.

Northern Rhone Tastings; 4/15/2016-4/16/2016 : Tasted at the domaine. Aromas of mesquite, spice, minerals, anise and blackberry; adding more primary red fruit on the palate and growing more nuanced. Big structure, with elegance, fine tannins and full finish. Excellent.
