Excellent bottle to kick-off the new year. Charged out of the gate with powerful aromas of mint, cloves, and a heavy dose of anise. Like ripping open a bag of licorice. With some air we got some barbecue grill and camphor. Fresh, lively and still youthful in the mouth. More cloves and anise as well as unsweetened blackberry pie. Long finish. One of the better Village-level wines in recent memory. Wish I had more. Drink now but will easily hold …

Magnum. 2007 auf dem Weingut erworben. Der Wein schmeckt schon direkt aus der Flasche gar nicht schlecht, verbessert sich aber über viele Stunden stetig. Ein großer schwerer Wein der seine volle Trinkreife erreicht hat, sie aber auch noch einige Jahre (Mgn.) halten wird! Südliche Rhone at its best!! Für den ein oder anderen wird das zu viel des Guten sein, besser ist der Jahrgang aber wohl kaum umzusetzen gewesen! Großes GrenacheKino!!!

Spectacular showing! Red and dark fruit, sweet nose, some secondary notes. Smooth mouthfeel, slight glycerin, Full bodied, but polite, not offensive. Balanced with power. Long finish. Very impressive.

A very big wine indeed. Rich fruit in the strawberry to cherry range with complex tanninc and acidic profile. Opened first night on its own, but after one night under inert gas the second day it was much better. Especially with a savory steak it showed magnificently. Several years left on this one for sure.

Found this in a far corner of the cellar - not as bad as all that - M. Deranoncourt has certainly added a touch of elegance at this domaine, and it shows in the very difficult 2003-vintage; there is, initially, a touch of heat in the nose, certainly, and the 16+degrees does show, but there is an underlying freshness in the fruit, that surprises. A big, bold, manly wine, that needs food, but certainly more than just drinkable, very good …

Garnet/deep purple in colour. On the nose it was dark red/black currents, dark fruits and initially oak. On the palate it is quite big chewy roasted meats which gave way to dark fruits that lasted through the lengthy finish. Really opened up with some air. Big satisfying wine.

This was delicious on this night. Paired with Flannery burgers (which I have to say are SPECTATULAR). Great pairing. Very dark in color with nice clarity. Great aromatics of dark fruits, with other hints i had trouble nailing down. Still very young on the nose. Flavors were also of great rich fruits, nicely layered and structured. Somewhat closed, but still a new world style, at least at this stage. it and a HdV were paired with leg of lamb and there were some strong similarities in their styles. Late in an evening of many bottles of wine, this was very good, but i didn't keep good notes . Will save my last bottle of this for a couple of years.

Black/violet. Nose is very much into red current syrup, but has distinctive notes of iodine, burnt aromas, tar. Bob would say "scorched earth". On the palate, the wine is ripe and yet simultaneously a tad bitter, and the tannins are chewy but just a shade harsh. __________________

A solid wine, but I did not heed the salesman's advice to decant for six hours. After some air time it was very pleasant. Prior to that it was hard, astringent, alcoholic.

Right out of the bottle this was the biggest Grenache I've ever tasted. Fruit nose was huge, almost Syrah like but lacking the pepper, after several hours of air the Grenache characteristics started to show, still massive fruit and heat, 15%! Overwhelming for me at this stage, sure would like to try this again in 10 years.

I think this was a little bit of infanticide. Even with decanting for one hour, the wine was somewhat closed. As it slowly opened, it had a light nose of cherries, with a very subtle hint of blueberry. The nose later developed into a distinctive burnt cherry. The alcohol seemed to dominate the taste. A well balanced wine -- with some earthy, almost coffee-ground like over tones. You can taste potential here. I will not prematurely open the other bottle …
