Nice Barolo. I was surprised by the oak influence here. A bit of research suggests that this one spent 1 year in barrique and 1 in cask. Red apple butter and vanilla lead the way before red fruits and some spice emerge. Sneakily full-bodied and dense on the palate. Good mid and back palate presence of fruit. This one was better on day two once the oak flavors began to incorporate a bit more. I think this has plenty of …

This felt less oak influenced than any other wine from Ratti that we have tried. Concentrated and complex with cherry, strawberry, orange zest, licorice, violet, tar tobacco and rose. Beautiful Barolo that has just entered the peak of a long drinking window.

8 hour decant which made it a pleasure. But still very young and tight with tannins. Lots of sweetness though so I look forward to the future. Drank the 2010 recently and it was an absolute winner.

Good wine overall but no wow factor. Tannins are soft, the taste of nebbiolo is there but not the taste of classic barolo. It will please to many but not to all.

Against same wine from Trediberri. This was slightly less interesting.

Translucent pomegranate color. Very aromatic, black fruits, violet. On the palate, med+ body, med acidity, med+ and slight gripping tannins. Very well made! Glad that I have another bottle and will try after 5 years.

Grande struttura e corpo, equilibrio. Persistenza lunghissima. E pensare che è ancora giovanissimo. Spettacolare.

Ripe red cherry, espresso, rose, red hots, and a touch of quinine comprise the rich, impactful nose of the 2016 Ratti Rocche dell’ Annunziata. The tannin isn’t too punishing and the long, lingering finish offers promise. 93+?

Return to Piemonte!; 11/25/2021-12/4/2021 (Castello di Sinio, Alba, other various locations) : The only Rocche we had (I thought last two might be) and yet you can understand this vineyard with one wine and really only a touch of age. First it is the elegance, the ‘pretty’ (aka floral - here lots of rose hip), darker fruits, some leather. It’s a very well pulled together wine. Much enjoyed.

Farge: Typiske nebbiolo med litt rubinpreg Duft. Tørr kjeller med noe mørk frukt i bakkant Smak: Kragftige tanniner, her er det mye å gå på. preg av surkirsebær med mere. Noe morken ved. Noe søtlig i ettersmaken.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening Tasting Event in NYC. Similar to the Conca cru, this was drinking almost too good for such a young Barolo. The nose was captivating but seemingly modern and barrique influenced but I was told this was aged in botte grande. Very soft texture and modest tannin and acidity. There were vanilla, chocolate, fresh berries and a moderately long finish. Seemed out of character with the vintage based on all the other 2016's …

Another peekaboo. Closed, then open, then closed again. When open, sensational. Too lay down.
