Perfumes of lavender, raw meat, black olive, black cherry, wood smoke, graphite, and minerals. Subtle, but a lot there. In the mouth, a velvety texture impresses, showcasing mature red cherry fruit and black pepper, then lots of earthy funk that lingers on the medium long finish. Tannin is integrated and there is just enough acidity. In a perfect spot, no need to wait longer. Drink now - 2026.

My last of three glorious bottles bought from Stone and Vine in 2018. My first real experience of tracking evolution over a long(ish) time. Northern Rhône bliss N: Beautiful. Sultry. Sweet brambly blackcurrant, perfumed rosemary stems and white pepper. P: Elegance. Med+ body. Acid and tannins in harmony. A brilliant lift to the fruit profile that has to be the splash of Viognier. Raspberry, dried dark cherry, blackcurrant skin. Perfumed, dried flowers. Potpurri, grainy leather.

Medium almost deep ruby color. Ripe strawberry, plum, blackberry, hints of vanilla. High acidity, medium tannin. Short finish. Was disappointed, pretty simple and nothing like I was expecting from a cote rotie. Tried again after an hour decant, and it got worse.

Better that a bottle last year. The smoke, pepper and bacon are really starting to come out. Jamet-like showing, though simpler.

This Côte-Rôtie is not very fruity, but it is still tannic and intensive on the palate. The wine may not be very seductive, but it is anyway providing stylish aromas and flavors of dark berries, tobacco, herbs and coal. I don't know, if this will get better or different with more age.

[Poured 2 glasses from my Corovin] Expressive, floral nose, dark cherries, prunes, licorice. Quite intriguing but slightly muted at first. A bit of alcohol too, but nothing unpleasant. Mouth - good structure, very round, soft, integrated tannins, medium bodied. Ripe dark fruit on the mid-palate, hints of vanilla and plum, nothing very complex without any great length. More modern than classic in style... Overall, the nose promises, but the mouth hasn't got any great depth. It's a very tasty, beautifully …

Why did I only get 3 of these at £24? 2 down, 1 more to go. 2 years since the previous and not much change. Embodies the Cote Rotie style of Syrah with a Burgundy edge. Perfumed and dense nose, dense and powerful palate with an aromatic lift that I haven't experienced with any other red. Not the firmest of structures, with med tannins and med+ acid, but still pretty primary in nature. I'll try to resist number 3 until …

Still quite primary with rich, spicy, smoky black fruit. Ripe, concentrated black fruit that features chewy tannin. More potential than nuance at this early stage. Nicely balanced and should improve as it gains depth with another 5-10 years.

This is only now entering its drinking window. Still a bit simple but suspect significant future upside.

Had the grandes place just a few months ago. Very similar. Big, dark, powerful, masculine. Thought not quite as much as the other wine. Still, a dark chocolate bar with some cracked pepper. Light on the florals and heavy on the earth. Drinking well now. Definitely in mid age. And I wouldn't hold for more than 5 more years or so.

This medium/full-bodied Côte-Rôtie is dense and intensive, but not very fruity. It reveals pleasant aromas and flavors of dark berries, smoke, tobacco and herbs. The wine is quite acidic and still fairly tannic, so it might benefit from some more bottle-age. This is not as impressive and refined as e.g. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde in the same price class of the appellation, but it is not a bad effort anyway.

The stand out of a recent casual blind taste session. It's pure quality was obvious; terroir trumps everything. 24m in oak, big and not all new the traditional way 🇨🇵 Picked up for an insane £24. Wish I'd got more than 3 bottles. Meaty deep red fruit. Wonderful aromatic intensity on the nose. Deep and dense rich dark on the palate, underbrush, parma violets, super herbaceousness, not super peppery. Brilliant balance between structure (med+ tannins and acidity) and intense fruit. …

Très bien fait mais intense et massif. Malgré la carafe, il est resté d'un bloc. À attendre.

Popped and poured. This is a solid purple wine. There is no sediment in the bottle whatsoever. On the nose, I get blackberries and a bit of brisket. In the mouth, this is a fresh wine, with nice balance and a focus on black fruits, all leaving a lip-smacking finish. Overall, this is a good, but somewhat straightforward, Cote-Rotie. The QPR is pretty nice on this wine. Not sure how time will affect matters, but I look forward to the …
