Rich red fruit aroma with the typical Calera “dustiness”. Complex aromatic bouquet. Dense red fruit flavor with a long, lingering black fruit and licorice finish. Notes of earth, mint and spice too. Well balanced considering the thick, almost syrupy texture. Fully extracted style. Needed 2-4 hours in the decanter to open. This is in a great spot now but has many years of life remaining. Cork in perfect condition.

This is a big, bold, fairly forward PN with an abundance of penetrating, earthy, dark red fruit, floral notes and perhaps a hint of pipe tobacco. While certainly not a wine of finesse and nuance, the depth and concentration are admirable. Quite nice and drinking well tonight shortly after opening.

Brief tasting during a walk around of California Wineries, Montreal. Needs time, but this is already showing a lot of potential, with ripe concentrated red fruits, crushed stones a little chocolate and some earthy notes, well made and well-balanced pinot, wait 5 years or so to see its full potential.
