Greystone / Grey's Peak Syrah

2019 Visit to North Canterbury, NZ : Bottle tasting, two small pours. From a warmer year, not made in 2017. A bouquet of minerals, red currants, mixed spices and dried herbs. A fresh and clean palate, quite silky with relatively racy acidity. Quite intense, finishing on some raspberry zing. A decent cooler climate syrah.

P&p; drinking well right away. Vibrant, "crystalline" dark-reddish fruit, with earthy, savory depth, and accents of black pepper and garrigue with a vaporous high note along the lines of camphor or Bay Laurel. Similar flavors; nice fruit, fairly concentrated but with a sense of purity and freshness. Good acidity, bordering on tart. Some grippy but smooth tannins provide additional structure. Nice balance and poise, with some depth and interest, and just plain tasty.
