Celler Cal Pla, Priorat, Mas D'en Compte

Pues sigue manteniendo el tipo. Con una fruta que da la sensación de ir ganando lentamente en opulencia, con matices de fruta roja confitada, junto con las notas de cacao, los toques especiados y algún apunte ahumado. En boca hay materia, con cuerpo y tanino vivo, no anda mal de frescura, tiene estructura y cierta complejidad. Bastante largo.

From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted off grainy sediment 30 minutes, modest improvement in glass over subsequent 90 minutes. Lighter colour than expected—more crimson than purple, showing premature age? Blackberry and spicy old oak scent; medium-bodied entry, tastes more like a 15-y.o. wine, a bit tired and attenuated; not entirely appealing tertiary notes of decaying fruit; finish still quite tannic, dry, short. De color granate de buena capa. La nariz es bastante intensa y expresiva, con notas de fruta roja en sazón y toques de confitura, matices especiados y algo de cacao en polvo. En boca tiene buen ataque, bastante cuerpo, tanino intenso, acidez media con buena sensación de frescura, bastante estructurado, cierta mineralidad y bastante longitud. Vi de Vinyes Velles. 14 m. de crianza en barricas nuevas de roble francés. 50% garnatxa, 45% samso y 5% cabernet sauvignon. Licorella.

Solid Priorat. Opened quickly after a short decant to remove sediment. Red plums, mulled wine, and charcoal in the glass. Cranberry sauce, ripe red plums, and a menthol/smoke note in the mouth. Has lost some edginess and verve but still hanging together nicely. Drink now or soon.

Far better than my previous bottle. Still plenty of acid, but balanced with fruit dominated by dark cherry and none of the earlier off notes. Excellent with a pork roast.

Just today I got a delivery from Spain (12 bottles including 3 from Priorat). I chose this one because it is the oldest of the three. The first and the most important thing: this juice has 15.5% alcohol so it kills all that is good in this wine and there is a lot of good. Barnyard on the nose blows off with time. Not an attractive wine, fruit and tannins were both in the background letting acids steal the show. Hopefully just an off bottle, I'll try another in a few months.

Grenach-Carignan-Cabernet blend (50%/40%/10%), on the nose ripe black cherries, violets, raspberry, hints of vanilla, the palate is consistent with the nose, oak is present but not in a disturbing manner, sour tones, light spiciness, some mint, flavours of violet get stronger with time is the glass, fruit, tannins and acidity are in good balance, an attractive approachable Priorat which is drinking very nicely now.

Wow, this is really in a sweet spot. I pulled it from the bin without really thinking about it, popped and it sat for an hour while prepping dinner. The ‘2015 Cal Pla Priorat Negre’ has a varietal composition of 60 percent Samsó (Carinyena) and 40 percent Garnatxa, sourced from the terraced Llicorella vineyards (black slate) around the village of Porrera (province of Tarragona, Catalunya). This is the entry-level red from Cal Pla, not the mid-range "Mas d'en Compte" label and certainly not the cellar-clearance "black slate" offering. Eðalklúbburinn in Catalunya; 9/3/2017-9/9/2017 (Catalunya) : Light in colour. Starts with very heavy, earthy nose. Then after a short while we get minerals and solvents. On the tongue, cherries. Very fresh. A bit of sweetness. Entry level red but very good as such (9,5€).

Direkt nach dem Öffnen probiert - Farbe: konzentriert, schwarz-rot - Bouquet: schöne Frucht / Pflaume, Teer - Toll integrierter Priorat. Authentisch. Typisch für Cuvée und Region. Allerdings nicht besonders komplex - Wirklich gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Toller Wein.

Mas d'en Compte 2010 vs Xavier Anonyme 2007: - Farbe: Beide tiefrot und konzentriert. Der Xavier mit ein wenig bräunlicher Färbung aber nicht dominierend. - Der Xavier ist ein schöner Wein, schmeckt aber doch etwas "sprittig". Nicht ungewöhnlich für einen CdP, trotzdem nicht so mein Geschmack. - Der Compte ist runder, integrierter und balancierter. Allerdings auch konzentriert und vollmundig. - Compte für mich der klare Sieger. Xavier ist okay aber reicht nicht an die Erwartungen in den Beschreibungen heran.

Sweet mineral nose and too-sweet of an attack are followed by a wine that proceeds linearly from that confection through to other more interesting candies and finally to a fantastic and sophisticated finish that brings you back. Nanette gives this an 87 but explains that it's just not her style. Score reflects our Family Assessment. Better for everyone on day two.

Drank at Memorial Day BBQ. Much better than the first time I had it. Waiting a few years really calmed down the medicinal, oaky flavors. Very fragrant nose with a dark berry palate. Nice.

A fine mineralic wine with a very pleasant flavour. The little acid and the fine tannins make this wine to a good companion to different dishes. Highly recommended!

- Garnet color. It's balanced with a full body. Leathery texture with a medium finish - Great bottle, dark intense fruit and well balanced - tannins could have been a bit more integrated but overall very well done.

This wine was a treat to drink, well above my expectations. The key here is that this wine is deftly balanced - plenty of dark fruits, integrated oak, tangy acidity, and just enough mouth puckering sweet tannins to pair well w grilled steak. Bravo!
