Fattoria Colsanto Montefalco Sagrantino

Decanted for 3 hours Nose is frankly reminiscent of baby wipes at a first go. I can force recognition of dark fruit and somethings between oak and baking spice. Palate is woody with black cherry and savory herbs...almost green. Maybe this is just too young, but everything was unpleasant and confused. Skip it....(or wait a long time)

Raisins, very nice

Bottle 1371g. Moderately intense, lifted aromas of black fruit as well as red, oak spice and a little VA, something piney, something earthy. Dry, with elevated acidity and elevated, gum-shrinking tannins. Full-bodied, 15.5°, but not hot on the finish. Darker fruit than most Italian reds. Wood on the nose. Leave this alone for at least another five years.

Good fruit and acidity overpowered by harsh tannins. Needs more time to soften and come together. Shows promise, though.
